💬 GIVING FEEDBACK: A Core Skill for Every Language Teacher
At Applied Language Studies House (ALSH), we’re proud to offer the Trinity CertTESOL — an internationally recognised qualification that prepares you to teach English with confidence and competence.
🗓️ Next course begins: October 2025
💼 Flexible format | Expert tutors | International accreditation
One of the most eye-opening — and challenging — subjects on the course? Giving feedback to learners.
Why it matters: Research in language education highlights that feedback is not simply about correcting errors — it’s about creating opportunities for learning (Harmer, 2015; Ur, 2012). Effective feedback should be:
--Timely – given soon after the task while it’s still fresh in the learner’s mind.
--Specific – focused on clear, observable language use rather than vague comments.
--Balanced – highlighting both strengths and areas for improvement.
--Actionable – giving learners a clear next step to work on.
On the CertTESOL at ALSH, trainees explore different feedback types:
--Immediate feedback (during an activity) for quick correction and reinforcement.
--Delayed feedback (after an activity) to encourage learner reflection.
--Peer feedback to promote autonomy and collaborative learning.
Through guided teaching practice and reflective sessions, you’ll learn to choose the right feedback strategy for different learners, contexts, and lesson aims — a skill that sets apart effective teachers.
