Dr Paschalis Chliaras FHEA (M1, M2, M3) (PhD in Applied Linguistics and SLA) is an EAP/ESP (UG/PG) and TESOL Lecturer, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK, TEFL-Qualified, Qualified Cambridge Delta Tutor, Chairman and Director of the Research Centre for Applied Languages and Linguistics, Expert for the Key Activity 2 – Languages Transversal Programme, EU, Cambridge Centre Exams Manager and Presessional EAP Tutor, University of Birmingham & University of Warwick, UK. He is a member of IATEFL and member of BALEAP and has given 15 presentations at major international conferences in the UK, Turkey and Greece in the last 6 years. He is the founder of the Academic Institution Applied Language Studies House.

Rachel Tsateri (M2) is a freelance teacher, trainer and lifelong learner from Athens, Greece. You might know her from her blog, The TEFL Zone.
Rachel holds the Cambridge CELTA, DELTA, Train the Trainer and is studying for a master's degree in professional development for Language Education. She is an advocate of reflective practice and a pronunciation teaching enthusiast. Rachel is also an IATEFL PronSIG Committee member.

Greg Kavvadias (M1)
With an impressive academic record and over a decade of experience, Greg is a distinguished teacher trainer in English language instruction. He graduated in the top 3% of his class with a Bachelor's in English Language Literature and stood out in the top 1% with a Master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Awarded with Merit for Modules 1 and 2 of his Delta certification, he has honed his skills through teaching and managing courses in Greece and the UK. His main research interests include teaching pronunciation, teacher development, and content-based teaching, subjects on which he has both written and lectured extensively. His insightful and pragmatic approach has made him a sought-after professional in his field, with a reputation for excellence in curriculum development, classroom management, and mentoring aspiring English language teachers.

Meet our tutors:
Jason Price (course MCT) has worked as a teacher, teacher trainer and ELT project manager with both adult learners and in school-based contexts with young learners/teenagers. In addition to teaching, his experience includes designing and delivering teacher development/ trainer training projects in partnership with national ministries of education, working with UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) on teacher/trainer training programmes in the Middle East, and quality assurance of university English language teaching programmes.
He holds MA degrees in TESOL/Applied Linguistics from the University of Nottingham and in Middle East Politics from the University of Durham. He also holds the CELTA certificate and the Cambridge English DELTA diploma.

David Tipple (ACT) has been teaching for over twenty years in a variety of settings, including Spanish schools, Balinese NGOs, a Japanese cruise ship, and the London prison service. He has experience of all ages and levels, and has never shied away from a new teaching experience. He became a Cambridge teacher trainer in 2016 and made the transition to work online in 2020. He has run courses in Spain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey and the UK. He has lived in Gran Canaria with his wife and three children for over a decade.

DID YOU KNOW THAT...
.. lesson planning is considered evidence of being developed professionally?

Scrivener (2011) suggests that lesson planning is a thinking skill and helps to be clear about what you want to do – planning increases the number of your options – and doing so, increases your chances of a successful lesson.

Planning means imagining the lesson before it happens: it involves prediction, anticipation, sequencing, organising and simplifying. A written plan is evidence that you have done that thinking.

Prepare thoroughly but in class, teach the learners, not the plan. There are a number of general areas to think about: atmosphere, the learners, the aims, the teaching points, the tasks and teaching procedures, the challenge, materials and classroom management.

Important considerations when planning
2 key questions:
What is my procedure? (i.e. What sequence of tasks and activities will I use?)
What are the aims of the lesson?

This is a 5-hour course that shouldn't be missed!

IN JANUARY 2024 - ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN
EAP TEACHING PRACTICE course

Course duration:
January 15th - May 10th, 2024 (5 hours input on a weekly basis / 20 hours input per month). The course is offered in morning and/or afternoon input sessions to satisfy the needs of our candidates.

General course description:
The course is divided into 4 modules:

TP101 Input: EAP & study skills/Needs analysis/Students' difficulties (surveys); EAP syllabus and course design/ Students & courses evaluation; Learning styles & cultural awareness

TP102 Input: Methodology and materials/evaluating materials; Academic skills (all-skills approach; vocabulary development; lectures note-taking techniques; academic writing key features)

TP103 Input: Academic skills (Writing from reading & listening; synthesising; genre & subject-specific language; how to teach note-taking/making from reading passages at an academic level; how to teach note-taking/making from lectures; speaking for academic purposes- delivering presentations; references/research skills; examination skills)

TP104 Practice (10 hours in online and live streaming lessons + 10 hours reflection & tutorials/tutors to candidates and candidates to learners)

Assessment:
At the end of the course, there is a 3-hour computer-based examination divided into three parts: theory, practice, reflection.

Certificate:
At the end of the course you will receive a certificate along with the course description. You will be able to add it to your CV as an additional qualification.
