- Architecture & art workshops
for kids
towards a more practical approach to
education & creative activities for children. In our complex world where not only the ones who are equipped with academic skills are considered smart; intelligence takes another dimension, and should be utilized in order to grow up competent and happy children with strong foundations and self confidence. Anthills host
workshops for children of
age 4-13 where through creative play and architectural crafts will sharpen their imagination and cultivate their skills according to the theory of multiple intelligences. The different intelligences of children grow normally but are are strongly enhanced by the time kids spent on their exploration. So:
- The familiarization of children with concepts such as light and shadow, scale or perspective, boosts their three-dimensional perception, their creativity and visual /
spatial intelligence.
- Their familiarization with the concepts
of space & gap, as well as playing and
engaging their hands in constructions
enhances their kin-esthetic intelligence.
- Their expression through crafts and
construction enhances their critical thinking and verbal / linguistic intelligence.
- Use of geometry and mathematical thinking in these architectural structures strengthens their logical/mathematical intelligence.
- Familiarization with the parallel concepts of architecture and music (composition and variation of pauses / voids and notes / spaces at a certain rhythm leading to a harmonious result) contributes to the development of their musical / rhythmic
intelligence.
- Their contact with natural environment through the use of natural materials as well as the participation in some outdoor workshops develops their naturalistic
intelligence.
- Working individually and in groups children develop their social skills and confidence and therefore their interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence. Purpose of the workshops is not to prepare children to become professional architects but to awaken their creativity and to activate their innate capacity to become autonomous and independent adults, confident of themselves in whichever path they follow in the future.
