“VISIT SCHEDULING FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR 2025-26”
A) MAIN PROGRAM
As in previous years, during the school year 2025-26, the Kakogiannio Astrophysics School of Ypati will host visits from Primary and Secondary schools, organizations, and Erasmus+ programs in morning sessions during school hours as part of the EKFE of Fthiotida, aiming to raise students’ awareness of Astronomy and Space Science.
For the school year 2025-2026, the Kakogiannio Astrophysics School of Ypati will operate on:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (excluding holidays), 09:00 – 12:30.
Visits are free of charge for teachers and students and can be organized in groups of STRICTLY UP TO 38 PERSONS per time slot.
1st Slot: 09:00 – 10:30 (38 people)
2nd Slot: 11:00 – 12:30 (38 people)
Each slot lasts one hour and thirty minutes (subject to slight variation) and includes:
An awareness presentation in the Amphitheater of the Astrophysics School (approx. 45 minutes).
A tour through simulation software and photographic material of our known Universe in the Astro-Theater Dome / Planetarium (approx. 45 minutes).
Visit Planning Guidelines:
If the number of students is up to 38, the visit can take place in one slot. If the number of students is more than 38 and up to 75, they will be divided into two groups, and the visit will be arranged in two slots, in combination with the Byzantine Museum.
If the number of students and teachers exceeds 75, there must be mandatory phone communication with EKFE Fthiotida for the organization of the visit.

B) NEW PROGRAMS – NEW ACTIVITIES
Following the recent upgrade of its facilities, the Kakogiannio Astrophysics School of Ypati, starting from the school year 2025-26, can also offer students (and teachers) new additional activities and programs:
Climate Crisis or Climate Change
Information about “Weather” and “Climate”.
Introduction to an Automatic Ground Meteorological Station.
Explanation of the importance of climate variable values.
Monitoring measurements from neighboring local weather stations and historical data (if available).
Extraction of statistics such as rainy or sunny days, heatwaves or frost days, seasonal temperature differences between regions, etc.
Earthquakes and Seismic Protection
Introduction to a Seismograph (Raspberry Shake 1D).
Observation of seismic events of the current or other days, and information on earthquakes in Greece and abroad (e.g., Japan).
Explanation of basic seismic features such as magnitude, seismic scale values, epicenter, focal depth, etc.
Includes awareness on Seismic Protection and protection from other geological hazards (tsunamis, landslides, floods, etc.).
“The Earth Hall”
The evolution of planet Earth through Rocks, Fossils, and Imprints across millions of years.
Accompanied by an exhibition of rocks, fossils, and imprints, hosted in a dedicated hall.
Helps students understand Earth’s crust (composition) and related phenomena (volcanoes, tectonic plates, rifts, hot springs, etc.), as well as plants and animals that lived during different geological periods.
NOTE 1:
These topics can be adapted to the themes of Environmental Education Programs undertaken by schools or special student groups working on related subjects.
Introductory awareness sessions, especially for Environmental Education Programs, can also take place at the School Science Laboratory of EKFE Fthiotida, located at the 6th General Lyceum of Lamia (Solonos 53).
NOTE 2:
Schools or organizations participating in Erasmus+ programs and wishing to include the Kakogiannio Astrophysics School of Ypati as part of their main program must first submit a request to EKFE Fthiotida.
During the visit to the Kakogiannio Astrophysics School of Ypati, accompanying teachers must have an official signed school document stating the total number of students and accompanying teachers, with the school’s stamp.
