The Critical Strategies Interdisciplinary Studio-CRISIS of the Department of Architecture, School of Engineering, University of Ioannina focuses on the reearch of interdisciplinary strategic approaches to architecture, the city and cultural heritage. It is based on the distinction between the strategic design approach and the corresponding business tactics. CRISIS aims to strengthen the role of ar

chitecture in the design of new policies for space and society through the development of appropriate concepts, methods and tools. The laboratory follows the following indicative research directions:

The integration between architectural theory, design and technology
The epistemology of design, across scales and program
The strategic vision on design
The study and promotion of the sustainability of the architecture culture and the cultural heritage of the society
The holistic study of the urban condition in the framework of the Ekistics
The development of the appropriate innovative methods and tools for the technological support of the above mentioned directions

CRISIS is directed by Nikolas Patsavos, Associate Professor. CRISIS members include a multiskilled and interdisciplinary team of researchers and educators, including professors Yorgos Smyris, Yannis Vlachos, Apostolos Panos, Yorgos Rimenidis, Yannis Zavoleas, Yannis Gatzias, and PhD researchers Vangelis Brachos, Vassilis Tsesmetzis and Vangelis Bekiarides.

🌿🏘️Ανθρώπινοι Οικισμοί — Βιώσιμες Κοινότητες: Open Call για νέους αρχιτέκτονες και φοιτητές αρχιτεκτονικής

Κατάθεση προτάσεων για συμμετοχή σε Έκθεση αρχιτεκτονικών μελετών, στο πλαίσιο του SNFCC Green Weekend 2024, που φέτος φέρει τον γενικό τίτλο «Ιδέες για μια Πράσινη Πόλη». Η Έκθεση θα παρουσιαστεί στον Μεσογειακό Κήπο, στο Πάρκο Σταύρος Νιάρχος του Κέντρου Πολιτισμού Ίδρυμα Σταύρος Νιάρχος (ΚΠΙΣΝ).

Η πρόσκληση αφορά σε νέα έργα, αλλά και σε μελέτες που έχουν ήδη αναπτυχθεί στο πλαίσιο ακαδημαϊκών δραστηριοτήτων, αρχιτεκτονικών διαγωνισμών ή άλλων δημιουργικών διαδικασιών.

🌿🏘️Human Settlements — Sustainable Communities: Open Call to young architects and students of architecture

Submission of proposals for the participation in an architectural design exhibition in the context of the SNFCC Green Weekend 2024, staged this year under the general title “Ideas for a Green City.” The exhibition will be presented at the Mediterranean Garden, at Stavros Niarchos Park of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC).

The open call concerns new projects, as well as designs that have already been developed in the context of academic activities, architectural competitions, or other creative processes.

The Union of Mediterranean Architects UMAR - Union of Mediterranean Architects - Architectes de la Méditerranée, in collaboration with the Association of Greek Architects (SADAS-PEA) ΣΑΔΑΣ - ΠΕΑ, the Center for Mediterranean Architecture (CAM) Κέντρο Αρχιτεκτονικής της Μεσογείου, the School of Architecture of the Technical University of Crete (TU Crete School of Architecture) Σχολή Αρχιτεκτόνων Μηχανικών Πολ Κρήτης / School of Architecture ΤU Crete, CRISIS research lab of the Department of Architecture of the University of Ioannina (UoI CRISIS Lab) arch.uoi, and the Greek Section of the International Union of Architects (UIA Greek Section), are launching the project Modern Architectural Heritage of the Mediterranean: Common Grounds – Parallel Stories. Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for the Conference that will take place in Crete, Greece, on October 12–13, 2024.
