When does a second rebreather stop being “extra equipment” and become the solution? 🤿⚙️
A real-world technical diving case study from Crete.
The mission: inspect 5.8 km of underwater freshwater pipeline, with an uncertain route, unknown maximum depth and unpredictable runtime and decompression obligation.
Conventional open-circuit bailout planning quickly became a serious logistical challenge.
The solution?
Two independent CCR systems — JJ-CCR + Halcyon Symbios Chest Mount — combined with a Seacraft Future DPV.
In our latest article, we use this actual dive to explore dual-rebreather diving, bailout philosophy, redundancy and the point at which a bailout CCR can become a practical alternative to carrying increasingly large amounts of open-circuit gas.
Not about going deeper just because we can.
It’s about having the right tools, training and redundancy for the mission.
