A new new open-access paper has been published in Environmental Research Communications (IoP). Developed as part of the broader Go-JuSΤ - Governing Just Sociotechnical Transitions research project, the paper article examines how today’s irrigation-management challenges in Thessaly are rooted in a much longer history of infrastructures, institutions, agricultural modernization, and changing state priorities.

Το έργο χρηματοδοτήθηκε από το ΕΛΙΔΕΚ και το Εθνικό Σχέδιο Ανάκαμψης και Ανθεκτικότητας Ελλάδα 2.0 και σηματοδοτεί μια σημαντική καμπή για τον μακροπρόθεσμο σχεδιασμό στον αγροδιατροφικό τομέα της Θεσσαλίας, προτείνοντας ένα νέο μοντέλο διακυβέρνησης βασισμένο στη δικαιοσύνη και τη συμπερίληψη.

Using (deep) transitions theory to imagine transformative futures

Addressing current sustainability challenges requires facilitatingtransitions in single socio-technical systems such as food or wastemanagement, multi-system interactions as well as the rethinking offoundational assumptions about technoscience characterizing all industrialsocieties. How to mobilize these insights for imagining transformativefutures remains a challenge though. In this talk, I will discuss threeways in which the Deep Transitions framework from the sustainabilitytransitions field can be used in futures exercises. More specifically, Iwill talk about Delphi surveys for Estonian energy and mobilitytransitions, the DT Futures initiative for rethinking finance forsustainability, and drawing on the notion of industrial modernity fordesigning transformative niche clusters.
