Adult Baby Jesus & the Unholy Virgin
This project is the ornery offspring of Philadelphia noise musician Jennifer Bronson (Rat Catching) and San Francisco performance artist Matt Cornell. It was conceived at the legendary q***r cabaret night at the Vrankrijk nightclub in their adopted home of Amsterdam. Their Sound Acts performance was divided into two parts: “Changes” in which Adult Baby Jesus and the Unholy Virgin perform a ritual of enmeshment, autonomy and maternal role reversal. The second part, “The Aural Stage”, outlined all the ways in which “Noise music sucks”.

Alex Alvina Chamberland is a Swedish-American performance artist and writer based in Berlin. Her work focuses on explosivity, intensity, musicality, vocal experimentation, silence, maximalism and (trans)femininity, dealing with subjects such as failure and passivity as a means of resistance to obligatory capitalist success and productivity, as well as loneliness, yearning and collectivity.
At Sound Acts, she presented "In per trying/Witches decide/My (trans)femininity/Danse Sacrale/No title only tidal wave" which she describes as "something along the lines of beyond gender essentialism and beyond gender neutrality. It features a vocal experimentation-portion spanning over 3.5 octaves from low pitch to high pitch via multiphonics, a text song-monologue on the personal struggles of being (trans)feminine in a broader context of vulnerability, care and empathy as well as the pain of this aching world, followed by a staring match with the audience that leads to a self-sacrificial dance till exhaustion and near death based on The Dying Swan and the Nijinsky-choreographed Danse Sacrale-ballet in Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, topped off by a monologue that requires help from the audience to finish reading as the performer (the I that is me) is often so exhausted after the 122 jump dance that she cannot finish on her own. And then: An exciting dance slowly shifting between a being trapped in a wall, a warrior, a becoming of the pollen of a flower and from offstage a Schrei speech, a final plea: A SCREAM OF LOVE!!!"

Aimée Lê is a Vietnamese-American artist; Her work focuses on untranslatability, conceptual excess, authorial control and the ‘anecdotal’ through the lens of internationalism. She is the co-author, with Fiona Chamness, of the poetry collection Feral Citizens (Red Beard Press, 2011), and one of the founders of Occupy Dartmouth. Aimée is currently a PhD candidate in Practice-based Poetics at Royal Holloway, University of London.
In Sound Acts, she presented the world premiere of her project 'Aliki in Saigon', a Vietnamese/French/ English/Russian rework of the songs of Greek 60s pop movie diva Aliki Vougiouklaki, with a short accompanying lecture on multilingualism and untranslatability. In Aimée's words: "Aliki Vougiouklaki’s nostalgic countryside aesthetic, monosyllabic verbal emphasis, and soprano singing lend themselves quite well to a Vietnamese-language translation. Retaining most of Aliki’s original melodies to produce an uncanny ‘double’ and using backing karaoke tracks created by Filtig, I will perform a live set of several of Aliki’s most popular songs with the lyrics translated from Greek into Vietnamese (with small snatches in French, English and Russian, the most commonly found Western languages in Vietnam, which roughly correlate to three historical periods: French colonialism, American military occupation, and Soviet communism). The result is an internationalist pastiche that calls attention to the libidinal excess of performance over meaning."

Erected from the ghettos of Baltimore, Abdu Ali raps, sings, and chats over unorthodox and future sounds, creating music that is visceral, spiritual, and very real. From his energetic visceral performances, spiritualizing audiences as a cosmic, punk, and soulful tempest on stage to his work to transcend musical boundaries has put in him in genre categories along lines of afro-futurism to noise rap to “post-apocalyptic” sounding.
Championing Baltimore Club music in the fabric in most of his beats, through his work as a curator of Kahlon (an epic bimonthly music event), writings, and outspokenness via social media/interviews Ali, has been elected as a radical underground Baltimore music and cultural figure. Unapologetically black and q***r, Abdu Ali is bold, raw, and most importantly life-affirming. In Sound Acts, Abdu presented an explosive set, concluding in getting half of the audience on stage dancing along.
