Resisting disinformation - Ten building blocks to strengthen information integrity 27/04/2026

🔎 Why this matters for the coACTION Community

Disinformation is not only a media issue—it is a democratic education issue. Schools play a vital role in helping young people develop the knowledge, values, and critical thinking skills needed to navigate complex information environments responsibly.

The new Council of Europe publication Resisting Disinformation – Ten Building Blocks to Strengthen Information Integrity is highly relevant to the mission of coACTION Project, which promotes democratic culture through a Whole School Approach.

Its recommendations strongly connect with coACTION priorities, including:

• strengthening media and digital literacy among pupils and educators
• fostering respectful dialogue, evidence-based reasoning, and civic responsibility
• building trust within school communities through participation and transparency
• supporting democratic resilience against manipulation, polarisation, and harmful narratives
• encouraging cooperation between schools, families, and wider society

At coACTION, we believe that democracy must be learned, practised, and protected—starting in schools.

📘 We warmly recommend this valuable resource to educators, school leaders, and all members of our learning community.

📘 A valuable resource for the coACTION Community

We are pleased to highlight a recent publication by the Council of Europe:
“HUDERIA – Methodology and Model”, a practical framework supporting the development of artificial intelligence aligned with human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

🔍 Why is this relevant for the coACTION Community?

Although coACTION focuses on democratic culture in schools, this publication resonates strongly with our approach:

• It translates core democratic values into actionable frameworks
• It introduces structured methods for assessment, reflection, and responsible decision-making
• It promotes a culture of accountability and ethical awareness, essential also in educational settings

Much like the coACTION Sensor, HUDERIA demonstrates how complex principles can be made visible, measurable, and improvable through systematic processes.

🌱 What can educators take from this?

As schools increasingly engage with digital environments, this resource offers inspiration for:

• fostering critical thinking about technology and AI
• strengthening digital citizenship and responsibility
• connecting democratic education with emerging societal challenges

📎 An insightful contribution for anyone interested in bridging democracy, education, and responsible innovation.

Last Saturday, 28 March, Agrupamento de Escolas Terras do Ave (AETA – Portugal) held a Meeting for Parents and Guardians on the theme “Screens or parents: who is educating our young people?”

Led by psychologist Alfredo Leite, the session created a valuable space for reflection, dialogue, and shared perspectives on today’s educational challenges, highlighting the importance of family involvement and shared responsibility within the school community.

This initiative is closely linked to the Whole School Approach (WSA) and the goals of the coACTION Erasmus+ Project, reinforcing the importance of listening, participation, and collaboration in building a more democratic, inclusive, and participatory school culture.

The event ended with a musical moment, followed by the presentation of certificates to young volunteers, recognising their commitment, dedication, and active participation.
