🇬🇷🍽️ Out of Class Activities: A Taste of Crete in Chania!

Learning Greek goes far beyond the classroom! 💙 This week, Paola from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and Elvira from Romania 🇷🇴 joined us for a wonderful traditional dinner in the heart of Chania’s Old Town.

We enjoyed delicious Cretan flavors, including fava, saganaki, Greek salad with myzithra and barley rusk, and handmade skoufikhta. 🥗🧀🍝

Over a glass of white wine 🥂, we shared stories, laughter and experiences, discovering once again how food, language and culture bring people together.

And with the beautiful streets of Daliani and the historic minaret in the background, it was the perfect Cretan evening! ✨

At Alexander Greek School, our out-of-class activities in Chania are all about experiencing Greece, practicing Greek naturally and creating memories together. 🇬🇷❤️

A little taste of Crete, a lot of good company! 😍

🇬🇷☀️ August 15 – the Summer Easter of Greece! 🇬🇷

Did you know that August 15 is one of the most important celebrations in Greece? ❤️

Known as Dekapentavgoustos, it celebrates the Dormition of the Virgin Mary and brings together everything that makes Greek summer so special: ⛪️ traditional church celebrations, 🕯️ processions, 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 family gatherings, 🍽️ delicious food, 🎶 live music and 💃 dancing at village panigyria!

From Tinos and Paros to small mountain villages and islands, Greeks come together to celebrate, often returning to their hometowns and family villages for this special day.

That’s why we call it the “Summer Easter” of Greece! 🌞🇬🇷

🍽️🇬🇷 A Greek dinner, the Greek way! 🇬🇷🍷

Yesterday, our students left the classroom and gathered around the table at OXO NOU, a traditional Cretan restaurant in Athens, for a delicious evening of food, culture and καλή παρέα! ❤️

From 16 to 75 years old, and from neighbouring Italy 🇮🇹 all the way to distant Venezuela 🇻🇪, our students came from different generations and corners of the world — but shared the same table and the same curiosity to discover Greece!

With our lovely teacher Vasiliki guiding us, we explored the Greek way of eating: sharing dishes, tasting new flavours, ordering in Greek, taking our time and enjoying good conversation. 🫒🥗🍅

Because learning Greek isn't only about grammar and vocabulary. It's about experiencing the language through food, traditions, people and everyday Greek life. 💙

And what better lesson than one enjoyed around a Greek table? 😋

Ευχαριστούμε! Και εις υγείαν! 🍷✨

💃GR A Family That Dances Together, Learns Together! PL❤️

Our out-of-class activities are all about experiencing Greece beyond the classroom, and this week was extra special!

Our lovely student Beata from Poland joined one of our Greek dance lessons together with her niece and her aunt. Three generations came together to discover the rhythms, traditions, and joy of Greek dancing-and they did it with plenty of smiles and laughter! ✨🎶

Learning Greek isn't only about grammar and vocabulary. It's about living the culture, meeting wonderful people, and creating memories that last a lifetime.

A big thank you to Beata and her family for sharing this beautiful experience with us. We hope to dance together again soon! 🩵🤍

🇬🇷 Learning Greek goes beyond the classroom!

This Saturday, our afternoon group visited the famous Kallidromiou Laiki Agora in Exarcheia as part of our out-of-class activities. 🌿🍅

Our students practiced everyday Greek while exploring one of Athens' most authentic open-air markets. They spoke with local vendors, learned the names of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and traditional products, and experienced Greek culture in a real-life setting.

There's no better way to build confidence than by using the language in everyday situations. Moments like these make learning Greek both practical and unforgettable!

Have you ever visited a Greek Laiki Agora? Tell us your favorite market experience in the comments! 💙

🌿✨ A Journey of Love, Learning, and Discovery ✨🌿

We are proud to share the story of our Greek language student from Mexico, who spent three unforgettable months in Athens 🇬🇷

Through dedication, curiosity, and passion, she transformed her Greek from just a few words into the ability to express her own experiences in the language. During her stay, she explored Athens, visited museums and monuments, and travelled to incredible places such as Nafplio, Aegina...

But most importantly, she connected deeply with Greece and its people. 🤍

One of her most meaningful reflections captures her journey beautifully:

"The best thing about Greece is its people."

We are proud of her progress, her effort, and her love for learning. Stories like hers remind us that language is more than words — it is connection, culture, and discovery.

Thank you for being part of our school. We wish you many more adventures ahead! 🌍✨

🏰🌊 Out of Class Activities: Exploring Thessaloniki's White Tower 🇬🇷

A little wind couldn't stop us from having an unforgettable day! 💙

Our students recently visited the White Tower, the iconic symbol of Thessaloniki, for another exciting out-of-class activity filled with history, culture and, of course, plenty of Greek conversation!

As we walked along the beautiful waterfront, the fresh sea breeze made our adventure even more memorable. 🌬️🌊

Inside the White Tower, our students discovered the fascinating story of Thessaloniki through the centuries—from its Byzantine and Ottoman past to the vibrant city we know today. Every floor revealed something new, giving everyone the chance to learn more about Greece while expanding their Greek vocabulary.

And then... the climb to the top! 🙌

Despite the strong wind, we enjoyed breathtaking panoramic views of the Thermaic Gulf, took lots of photos 📸, shared plenty of laughs and created memories that will stay with us for a long time.

At Alexander, we believe that the best way to learn Greek is to live it. Every excursion is another opportunity to practise the language, discover Greek culture and build friendships that go beyond the classroom. ❤️

Thank you to our fantastic students for another wonderful day—we can't wait for the next adventure!

🌿✨ Out of Class Activities: A Magical Escape in Thessaloniki ✨☕

Sometimes, the best Greek lessons happen outside the classroom! 🇬🇷💙

Our wonderful group of adult learners recently explored one of Thessaloniki's best-kept secrets: Pasha's Gardens (Kipi tou Pasa). 🌳

Hidden beside the historic walls of Ano Poli, this peaceful park is unlike anywhere else in the city. Our students admired its unique stone structures, fairy-tale pathways and fascinating Gaudí-inspired architecture while discovering the local legends that make this place so mysterious. 🏰✨

After our walk, it was time for one of Greece's favourite traditions... ☕

We relaxed at a nearby café with breathtaking panoramic views over Thessaloniki and the Thermaic Gulf. With coffee in hand, our students chatted, laughed and practised their Greek in the most natural way—through real conversations and shared experiences.

These moments are what make learning a language so special. Every outing is an opportunity to discover Greek culture, make new friendships and create memories that will last a lifetime. ❤️

A big thank you to everyone who joined us—we're already looking forward to our next adventure together!

🍽️🏰 Out of Class Activities in Thessaloniki 🇬🇷

What better way to end a day of exploring than by sharing a delicious Greek meal together? ❤️

After a fascinating walk through the historic streets of Ano Poli, our students gathered at the traditional tavern Toixo Toixo, right next to the city's historic walls.

Thessaloniki is known as the culinary capital of Greece, and this was the perfect opportunity to discover why! From delicious traditional meze to stories about local recipes and Asia Minor influences, every dish was a new cultural experience. 🫒🥗🧀

But the best part wasn't just the food...

Around the table, our students chatted, laughed and practised their Greek naturally, turning lunch into another unforgettable language lesson. Away from textbooks, they gained confidence, made new friendships and experienced the famous Greek tradition of sharing food and conversation.

Because learning Greek isn't only about the classroom—it's about living the language every day. 💙🤍

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this afternoon so special. We can't wait for our next adventure together!
