Türkçedeki en uzun kelime - Longest word in Turkish 26/02/2019

As an agglutinative language, Turkish allows the construction of words by adding many suffixes to a word stem. The longest word in the Turkish language used in a text is "muvaffakiyetsizleştiricileştiriveremeyebileceklerimizdenmişsinizcesine" which has 70 letters. It is derived from the noun "muvaffakiyet" (success) and means "As though you are from those whom we may not be able to easily make into a maker of unsuccessful ones". It was used in a contrived story designed to use this word.

Karamanli Turkish (Karamanlidika) 21/02/2019

Karamanli Turkish is both a form of written Turkish and a dialect of Turkish spoken by the Karamanlides, a community of Turkish-speaking Orthodox Christians in Ottoman Turkey. Its vocabulary drew overwhelmingly from Turkic words with many Greek loan words. The language should not be confused with Cappadocian Greek, which was spoken in the same region during the same timeframe but is derived from the Greek language.

While the official Ottoman Turkish was written in the Arabic script, the Karamanlides used the Greek alphabet for writing its form of Turkish. Such texts are called Karamanlidika (Καραμανλήδικα / Καραμανλήδεια γραφή) or Karamanli Turkish today. Karamanli Turkish had its own literary tradition and produced numerous published works in print in the 19th century.

Turkish grammar and sentence structures as well as vocabulary completely different from Indo-European languages like English and Farsi or Semitic languages like Arabic and Hebrew and indeed from many other languages.

Turkish has some unique characteristics, like its vowel harmony and the strong presence of agglutination; there are also no articles, genders, declensions or noun classes in Turkish. The word order of the language is flexible, but the basic and most common order is subject–object–verb. Turkish has a strong T–V distinction and usage of honorifics. While these may seem strange at first, you’ll be surprised how quickly the new rules become practical and natural when you’re learning Turkish!

Turkish is the most widely spoken of its family that includes thirty Turkic languages. The differences among these languages are much smaller than their close similarities.

It is a significant language first because of the sheer numbers of people who speak it. 75 million people speak Turkish as their first language, making it one of the globe’s 15 most widely spoken first languages. There are other communities of speakers in the Balkans and the Caucasus, and several very large Turkish immigrant communities in Western Europe (Turkish is the second most widely spoken language in Germany, for example). Another 15 million people speak Turkish as a second language.

The Republic of Turkey is strategically connected, geographically and culturally, to Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East. Thus Turkish and knowledge of Turkey are advantageous to anyone interested in the international business or politics of those regions. Knowledge of Turkish opens up to you a region of great geopolitical significance.
