This work, provides real-world evidence that multidisciplinary cardiometabolic clinics — where diabetologists and cardiologists work together — can significantly improve outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
🔹 Major improvements were seen in HbA1c, LDL cholesterol, and BMI
🔹 78% of very high-risk patients reached LDL

Arterial Stiffness as a Complication of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis",
This systematic Review and Meta-analysis has been published in the Expert Review of Gastroenterology & Hepatology! 🎉✨
🔬 This research is part of the MSc Thesis in Cardiometabolic Medicine (Learn more: https://cardiometabolic.med.uoa.gr/), reinforcing our commitment to advancing knowledge in cardiometabolic health.
💡 Key Findings of the Study:
✅ Confirms a strong link between MASLD and increased arterial stiffness, a crucial cardiovascular risk factor.
✅ Meta-analysis of 27 studies reveals that MASLD patients have significantly higher pulse wave velocity (PWV) and augmentation index (AIx) than healthy individuals.
✅ This association remains independent of common cardiometabolic risk factors such as BMI, blood pressure, and glucose levels.

We are delighted to share that the article "Unraveling Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease Through the Use of Omics Technologies" has been published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences! 🎉✨
This publication based on the MSc thesis work for the MSc in Cardiometabolic Medicine (Learn more "https://cardiometabolic.med.uoa.gr/"), contributing valuable insights into Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) and how omics technologies can transform its diagnosis and treatment.
🔬 Key Highlights of the Study:
✅ Explores the role of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics in MASLD.
✅ Emphasizes the need for non-invasive tools for early disease detection and personalized medicine.
✅ Provides insights into the molecular pathways driving MASLD progression.
💐 Special congratulations to Dr. Maria Bougranou, the first author of this study, and to Prof. Eva Kassi, whose efforts and inspiration made this work possible!

Unraveling Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease Through the Use of Omics Technologies
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), now referred to as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), is the most prevalent liver disorder globally, linked to obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular risk. Understanding its potential progression from simple steatosis to...

🎉 Proudly Announcing the Publication of a systematic review by one of our MSc students from the Cardiometabolic Medicine program (Learn more "https://cardiometabolic.med.uoa.gr/") 📖✨ You can read the full article here: (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39936443/)
📊 Research Highlights:
🔬 Explores the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in liver disease progression—from non-alcoholic fatty liver Disease (NAFLD or MAFLD) to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
🧬 Reveals how specific miRNAs regulate lipid metabolism, insulin resistance, and fibrosis, contributing to disease progression.
👏 Congratulations to our MSc student 💙✨
