The British School at Athens, an educational charity founded in 1886, is the UK’s research hub in the humanities and social sciences in Greece and its wider Balkan, European, Mediterranean and Levantine contexts. The BSA exists to promote research of international excellence in all disciplines pertaining to Greek lands, from fine art to archaeometry and in all periods to modern time. It is one of

7 British International Research Institutes (BIRIs) that receives funding through the British Academy which sustains and supports British research overseas.

It's that time of the year when the BSA buildings get some much-needed love and care!
From new windows to fixing the floors to a fresh coat of paint - it takes a lot of work to keep the premises maintained, beautiful and most importantly, safe.
The Hostel is closed and will reopen on the 21st of September.
The Library will be closed from the 14th to the 21st of September.

Time flies when you're exploring Archaeology and Topography!
The Summer School students have been very busy the past couple of weeks exploring and learning about the history and landscape of Athens and its surrounds and are now finishing up their last week visiting the incredible ancient sites across the Peloponnese 🏛️

Some of the highlights so far have included:
📜Debating politics and administration right where it happened at the Ancient Agora.
🏛 Following in the footsteps of Lord Byron at the Acropolis Museum𖥔 ݁ ˖Decoding the mysteries of the Oracle during a fascinating trip to Delphi.
♆ Feeling Poseidon's power at his Temple in Sounion.

✨Applications are now open for the Fitch Laboratory Assistant Apprenticeship!✨

The British School at Athens (BSA) invites applications from organised, enthusiastic, and highly motivated postgraduate students for the BSA Fitch Laboratory Assistant Apprenticeship. This is a seven-month funded apprenticeship running from October 2026 to April 2027.
The apprenticeship offers individuals with an existing interest in archaeological science the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in a leading archaeological research laboratory. It is particularly suited to PhD students working in archaeological science, especially those with a focus on Aegean archaeology, and preferably ceramic studies, who may also be able to undertake part of their own laboratory-based research using the Laboratory’s facilities, including reference collections, microscopes and facilities for experimental work.

We are looking for volunteers who would like to be a part of the Athens Archaeology Festival team ✨

As a volunteer, you will become part of an active team of people who will offer assistance to visitors of all ages, while at the same time experiencing the (behind-the-scenes!) experience of organising an archaeological festival.

Your responsibilities may include:
• Help with set-up and packing
• Welcoming and guiding visitors
• Coordinating and providing assistance with scheduled activities
• Supporting people with accessibility needs and general visitor services

Σαν εθελοντής, θα γίνεις μέλος μιας δραστήριας ομάδας ανθρώπων που θα προσφέρει βοήθεια στους επισκέπτες όλων των ηλικιών, ενώ παράλληλα θα ζήσεις την (παρασκηνιακή!) εμπειρία της διοργάνωσης ενός αρχαιολογικού φεστιβάλ.

Οι αρμοδιότητές σου μπορεί να περιλαμβάνουν:
• Βοήθεια με το στήσιμο και το πακετάρισμα
• Καλωσόρισμα και ξενάγηση των επισκεπτών
