Dr. Laura Matilde Magno is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Groningen. Her research project GRASSP “Geoarchaeological Relations between Architectural Space and Social Practices” focuses on the Late Bronze Age Mycenaean site of Pylos and uses geoarchaeology to analyze cultural sediments to retrieve information on social practices linked to architecture.
Using micromorphology, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray micro-CT-scan, and SEM at the Wiener Lab, Laura investigates activities inside and outside structures, their temporality, spatial variation, and associated know-how. She also studies accumulation and abandonment phases, as well as architectural features (e.g., roofing), construction techniques, and building materials (e.g., earth and plaster recipes).
Her geoarchaeological approach shifts the focus from walls and ground plans to the people who built, used, maintained, and modified the space.

Το έργο GRASSP εστιάζει στη μυκηναϊκή Πύλο και χρησιμοποιεί την γεωαρχαιολογία για την ανάλυση πολιτισμικών ιζημάτων, με στόχο την κατανόηση κοινωνικών πρακτικών που συνδέονται με την αρχιτεκτονική.
Συνδυάζοντας μικρομορφολογία, φασματοσκοπία υπερύθρου, μικρο-αξονική τομογραφία και SEM (στο Εργαστήριο Wiener), διερευνά δραστηριότητες εντός και εκτός δομών, τη χρονικότητα και τη χωρική διαφοροποίησή τους. Παράλληλα, μελετά φάσεις συσσώρευσης και εγκατάλειψης, καθώς και χαρακτηριστικά, τεχνικές και υλικά δόμησης.
Η προσέγγισή της μετατοπίζει το επίκεντρο της μελέτης από τις κατόψεις στους ανθρώπους που δημιούργησαν και χρησιμοποίησαν τον χώρο.
