O Stephen Cleary είναι παραγωγός και σύμβουλος ανάπτυξης, με θητεία 30 ετών στον κινηματογράφο και την τηλεόραση. Ήταν διευθυντής ανάπτυξης στο βρετανικό κέντρο κινηματογράφου, British Screen.

Στη διάρκεια της θητείας του εκεί, ανέπτυξε περισσότερες από 60 ταινίες που ολοκλήρωσαν την παραγωγή τους. Ανάμεσα σε αυτές, το «Before the Rain» (σκην. Milcho Manchevski, υποψήφιο για Όσκαρ καλύτερης ξένης ταινίας, και πρώτο βραβείου «Χρυσός Λέων» στο Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου της Βενετίας), «Rob Roy» (σκην. Michael Caton-Jones), «Butterfly Kiss» (σκην. Michael Winterbottom), «Love and Death on Long Island» (σκην. RichardKwietniowski).

Από το 1996 έως το 2006 ίδρυσε και διηύθυνε το Arista, τον μεγαλύτερο ευρωπαϊκό ιδιωτικό φορέα ανάπτυξης ταινιών. Το Arista χαρακτηρίστηκε «κέντρο αριστείας» από την Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή το 2001. Οι απόφοιτοί του έγραψαν, σκηνοθέτησαν ή παρήγαγαν περισσότερες από 250 ταινίες μεγάλου μήκους και χιλιάδες ώρες έργων μυθοπλασίας για την τηλεόραση. Ανάμεσά τους, τα «The Last King of Scotland», «Brick Lane», «Totsi», «The Flying Scotsman» και «London to Brighton».
