“I’ve been learning Dutch for quite a while… but when I actually need to speak, I still switch to English.”

And I get why.

Learning words is one thing.
Knowing what to say when your neighbour suddenly starts a conversation, your colleague makes a joke or someone asks you a question you weren’t expecting… that’s something completely different.

That’s the Dutch that matters.

Not perfect Dutch.
Not textbook Dutch.
