Title : PRONOUNS

What Is A Pronoun?
A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun to avoid repetition and make sentences smoother and clearer.

Examples
CHIOMA is my friend. SHE is very kind.
The BOOKS are new. THEY belong to the teacher.
JOHN hurt HIMSELF while playing football.

🔹TYPES OF PRONOUNS (with examples)
Personal Pronouns: I, you, he, she, it, we, they
👉 She loves English.

1. Possessive Pronouns: mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs
👉 This bag is mine.

2. Reflexive Pronouns: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself
👉 He blamed himself.

3. Demonstrative Pronouns: this, that, these, those
👉 Those are my shoes.

4. Relative Pronouns: who, whom, whose, which, that
👉 The girl who won is my sister.

5. Indefinite Pronouns: someone, anyone, everyone, none
👉 Everyone is welcome.

🔹 PRONOUN –ANTECEDENT AGREEMENT
A pronoun must agree with the noun it replaces (called the antecedent) in:
(a) Number (singular or plural)
(b) Gender
(c) Person

Examples
âś… The boss lost his car.
❌ The boss lost their car.

âś… boys should submit their assignments.
❌ boys should submit his assignments.

🔹COMMON ERRORS IN PRONOUN USAGE
❌ Someone left their bag.
âś… Someone left his or her bag.

❌ Me and Ahmad are friends.
âś… Ahmad and I are friends.

❌ The cat wagged it’s tail.
âś… The cat wagged its tail.
👉 (It’s = it is, its = possessive)

❌ Each of the girls forgot their book.
âś… Each of the girls forgot his book.

Always ask:
What noun is this pronoun replacing?
If they don’t match, your sentence is wrong
