23 Students Graduate from Insight, GIZ Scholarship Program

On May 6th, 2026, Insight held a graduation ceremony for 23 students who completed their studies in Tailoring and ICT, sponsored by GIZ.

During the ceremony, the Director General of Insight, Mr Ismaila Ceesay, expressed gratitude to GIZ for sponsoring 20 students in the Tailoring program. He emphasised that their investment is not just in training, but in the futures, families, and communities of these students.

He announced that 23 students would receive their certificates in Tailoring, ICT, and Catering. Mr Ceesay also noted that four of the tailoring graduates would be employed by the school.

He congratulated the graduates on their successful completion and encouraged them to make the most of the skills they had learned.

The Vice Chairperson of the Board, Mr. Ousman Nyang, representing the Insight Training Centre, stated that the graduates' performance would reflect on Insight as a whole; if they perform well, the institution will be recognised positively, whereas poor performance would bring the same negative association. He shared his own experience of being mocked for choosing Technical Vocational Education during a time when it was not widely respected. He explained that while learning can be difficult, it is fundamentally about problem-solving, and such problems should be challenging to stimulate learning.

Mr. Nyang emphasised the importance of diligence in their work, stating that even if someone excels at tailoring, poor finishing could lead to customer complaints, resulting in lost business.

He also congratulated the lecturers for their excellent work.

Kawsu Sillah, GIZ Coordinator in the Gambia, remarked on the significance of the event, highlighting that Tailoring has traditionally been male-dominated in the Gambia. He expressed his happiness at seeing women bridging that gap and thanked the lecturers, students, and parents for their support and dedication to the course.

Jip Ceesay, the Project Coordinator, acknowledged the challenges faced but praised the students for their perseverance, expressing her pride in their accomplishments. She noted that this is just the beginning, and while challenges may arise, no one can take away the skills they have gained. She encouraged them to keep pushing forward, as they have a bright future ahead of them.

Did you know that we offer a loan scheme for inmates who have been trained by Insight?

The loan scheme, supported by Gambia Children's First, is available to inmates who have completed their prison sentences and received training from Insight. This loan serves as startup funding to help them utilise the skills they have learned during their training.

The loan must be repaid within nine months and can be accessed by providing a guarantor.

During the graduation ceremony on April 29, 2026, Bekai Jeng and Mariama Conteh benefited from the loan scheme after applying for it.

At Insight, we are deeply committed to the rehabilitation program in prisons.

Inmates Graduate from Insight Skills Training Program

The Insight Training Centre, in partnership with the Gambia Prison Services and other stakeholders, held a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, for 48 inmates at Mile 2 Central and Jangjangbureh Prisons, and two prison Prison Officers.

Among the graduates, 18 studied Solar and Electrical Installation, 24 focused on Construction, 7 trained in Tailoring, and 1 studied Plumbing. Of the 48 graduates, 15 have been released from prison.

Since 2012, Insight has trained a total of 348 inmates: 277 are Gambian, 32 are Senegalese, 13 are Nigerian, 8 are from Guinea-Bissau, 3 are from Guinea Conakry, 9 are from Sierra Leone, 2 are from Ghana, 1 is from India, 1 from Liberia, 1 from Norway, and 1 from Cameroon.

Additionally, we inaugurated a newly constructed classroom and office building at Mile 2 Central Prison, which was sponsored by the MRC Holland Foundation and built by inmates enrolled in the construction program. TIKA provided all the training materials for the courses held in the new building.

The Gambia Children First supported Insight in expanding its operations at the Juvenile Justice Wing in Old Jeshwang. They also established a loan scheme for graduates who have been released from prison, providing a start-up fund that must be repaid within nine months.

The Director General, Mr. Ismaila Ceesay, expressed gratitude to our partners: the Ministry of Interior, Gambia Prison Services, MRC Holland Foundation, Henriette Brummer Sonko, Anita Smith, The Gambia Children First, TIKA, the British Embassy, ITC, GIZ, PUM Netherlands, the Dutch Embassy in Dakar, Senegal, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology for their ongoing support and partnership in the prison rehabilitation program.

He also thanked the Board, staff, and students of the Insight Training Centre for their hard work and commitment to the school.

As the saying goes, safety doesn't happen by accident, and at Insight, we take this seriously.

Last week, we conducted a refresher training session for both students and staff on safety protocols and the proper use of fire extinguishers.

The activity was engaging, and both staff and students learned a lot from the exercise.

On April 22nd, we held an inspiring Career Day for 20 tailoring and garment-making students, supported by GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) in The Gambia.

The students had just completed their exams and attachments last week, making this event a wonderful opportunity to reflect on their experiences and discuss their future plans. They shared training highlights, personal challenges, and future aspirations, showing that the sky is truly the starting point for them!

These young Gambians possess incredible talent and determination.

Let’s continue to support and encourage our youth in any way we can; you never know how far a kind word of encouragement can go!
