*KM Scouts Regional Executive Members Participate in Safe From Harm Training at NANA*

Regional Executive Members of KM Scouts are currently participating in an ongoing Safe From Harm (SFH) Training being held at NANA, which commenced yesterday as part of efforts to strengthen safeguarding practices within Scouting.

The training forms part of the broader Safe From Harm Week initiative championed by the Scout Movement, focusing on creating and maintaining safe, inclusive, and supportive environments for all young people and adults involved in Scouting activities.

Guided by the theme “Building a Culture of Care”, the sessions are equipping participants with essential knowledge and skills to promote emotional and mental well-being, prevent harm, raise awareness on safeguarding issues, and provide effective support mechanisms within Scout communities.

Throughout the training, Regional Executive Members are engaging in interactive discussions, group exercises, and practical learning experiences designed to enhance their understanding of safeguarding policies and best practices. The programme also emphasizes collective responsibility in ensuring that every Scout feels heard, respected, valued, and protected.

Speaking on the importance of the training, participants highlighted that Safe From Harm remains a fundamental pillar of Scouting and is critical to fostering a positive environment where young people can grow, learn, and thrive safely.

The KM Scouts Regional Executive Members expressed their appreciation to the organizers and facilitators for delivering the training and reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the knowledge gained across their respective districts and Scout groups.

The training continues over the coming days, with participants expected to develop action plans aimed at strengthening safeguarding measures and promoting a culture of care throughout the Scouting movement.

The Kanifing Municipality Scout Region is pleased to invite all Scouts to the Opening Ceremony and Induction Training of the Ocean Challenge Badge, marking the beginning of the first phase of this exciting and impactful initiative.

This program, under the UN FAO Youth Ocean Challenge Badge Training, aims to empower Scouts with the knowledge and skills needed to actively contribute to ocean conservation and support the Scouts for SDGs movement.

The KM Scouts through the Bakau District Scouts today attended a one-day Recycling and Upcycling Workshop organized by the Africell Impact Foundation.

The training focused on educating participants on creative and sustainable ways of recycling and upcycling waste materials into useful products, while promoting environmental awareness and community responsibility. Participants were guided by expert craft instructors who shared practical skills and knowledge on waste management and sustainability.

This initiative is also part of ongoing efforts to contribute to the The Gambia Scout Association SDGs Initiative, particularly in advancing environmental sustainability, responsible consumption, and climate action within local communities.

The Bakau Scouts expressed appreciation to the organizers for providing young people with the opportunity to learn innovative ways of protecting the environment and promoting sustainable living. The training also encouraged teamwork, creativity, and active youth participation in national development efforts.

The workshop was held at the Africell Impact Foundation near Emporium today Saturday, 23rd May 2026.

Yesterday’s scout meeting was successfully conducted with active participation from scouts and troop leaders. The meeting focused mainly on scout formation settings and whistle commands.

During the practical session, scouts were taught different formation arrangements and how to respond correctly to various scout whistle signals and commands. The practical helped improve discipline, alertness, coordination, and teamwork among the scouts.

The troop also practiced proper alignment, movement in formation, and quick response techniques during parade and outdoor activities. Scouts showed great interest and enthusiasm throughout the session.

The meeting ended successfully with reminders on discipline, punctuality, and the importance of teamwork in scouting activities.

Yesterday, the 14 Kombo Scout Group successfully conducted an educational and practical scouting activity focused on “How to Light a Camp Fire in Scouting.”

The activity was aimed at equipping scouts with basic outdoor survival skills, fire safety measures, teamwork, and leadership techniques that are essential in scouting activities and camping experiences.

During the session, scouts were taught the proper methods of preparing and lighting a camp fire, the importance of fire control and safety, and the different uses of camp fires in scouting such as cooking, warmth, signaling, and group bonding activities.

The activity also emphasized discipline, cooperation, responsibility, and environmental awareness among participants while strengthening the scouting spirit of learning by doing.

The leadership of the 14 Kombo Scout Group extends appreciation to all scout leaders, instructors, and members who participated and contributed towards the success of the activity.

Scouting continues to build young people into responsible citizens and future leaders through practical skills, service, and adventure.

Today, the Bakau Home Red Cross Link successfully organised a community cleaning exercise aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and community participation within Bakau.

The exercise was attended by members of the Bakau District Scouts, the Guards Battalion of the Gambia Armed Forces, and several other community members and youth groups who all came together to support the initiative.

Participants engaged in extensive cleaning activities within key areas of the community, including streets, public spaces, and surrounding environments. The exercise demonstrated teamwork, discipline, volunteerism, and a shared commitment towards maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

The organisers expressed appreciation to all participating groups and individuals for their dedication, cooperation, and active participation throughout the exercise. Such initiatives continue to strengthen community collaboration and encourage responsible citizenship among young people and residents.

Together, we continue to build a cleaner and healthier Bakau community.

*St. John Scout Troop ⚜️*

Yesterday date 16/05/2026, meeting at St. John Scout Troop was successfully conducted with emphasis on practical scouting skills. The troop completed the pioneering and knot tying practical sessions, where scouts demonstrated different types of knots and their uses in scouting activities.

In addition, practical lessons were also conducted on the Scout Sign, Scout Salute, and Scout Handshake. Scouts were guided on the correct procedures, meanings, and importance of these fundamental scouting traditions and symbols.

The meeting was interactive, educational, and productive as scouts actively participated and improved their knowledge, confidence, and practical scouting skills.

As part of KM Scouts’ contribution efforts toward inclusion and diversity to ensure everyone is included in the Scout Movement, and in support of the Gambia Scout TTL Project ⚜️

Earlier today, St. John School for the deaf Scout Troop conducted sessions on the basics of pioneering. Scouts were introduced to different types of knots and their practical applications in scouting activities. Practical sessions were held where scouts actively participated in tying and demonstrating various knots and basic pioneering skills. ⚜️🪢

The meeting also included engaging scout games aimed at promoting teamwork, discipline, alertness, and cooperation among members. The activities were interactive, educational, and enjoyable for all scouts present.

Overall, the meeting was productive and helped strengthen both practical scouting skills and unity within the troop.
