The Kairo International Foundation is a non-profit trust that supports education of children and young adults in the Gambia.
The Kairo International Foundation is a non-profit Baber Family Trust headquartered in the United States and The Gambia. The primary mission of the Kairo International Foundation is to support Gambian parents who want to provide a better education for their children. The Kairo Foundation has modest goals. We select a small number of children to receive full scholarships at a school selected by pa
rents with advice from their teachers and community leaders. Kairo Scholars are expected to maintain good grades and to hold high standards for integrity and academic excellence. Any Gambian child, regardless of tribal identification, village, or religion is eligible to be a Kairo Scholar. The Kairo Foundation now supports a secondary mission, which is the support of undergraduate and graduate students - young adults and older adults returning to school. This mission is important because the Gambia, like many African countries, faces "brain drain." Put simply, for lack of better opportunities, many people - particularly men - leave for western Europe or the US to pursue better opportunities. One means of keeping talented people in Africa is by supporting them through education at Gambia College or the University of the Gambia. However, these students often need help with tuition and equipment, particularly laptops and internet access. We welcome monetary or material donations to support these students. Note that all adults must apply for specific help, and indicate need.
