The Kairo Foundation is excited to announce its collaboration with Pastor Seal Sylvester Jammeh (MSPH) of the Gambian Christian Council and and his school in Fahara. We will be directing funds for scholarships to his school. Expect photos soon!

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted, but we remain active, now supporting about 10 children. However, now that The Gambia has free education, we are slightly shifting mission.

We will be supporting Zoe Primary School in Fajara and Zoe high School in Faraba. These are Christian schools directed by Pastor Seal Sylvester Jammeh and currently receive international funding and recognition for excellence. These schools are open denomination and embrace and educate Muslim children as well - they do not indoctrinate at all. The schools do not discriminate by religion, tribe, or gender.

We will be posting photos soon.

With love.

I know you haven't heard from me in some time. It's been a trying few months, but my program manager, Malick Fadera, has kept on doing his job with money I send. But now, the school year is starting and we need to pay tuition, get lunch programs started, and buy school supplies. Please help!

gofundme.com Schools start again in the Gambia in just a few weeks. In the past few months, I've stepped back a little from direct work with the Kairo International Foundation, instead sending monthly cheques for my program manager, Malick Fadera, to manage and disperse. Funds donated pay for school fees, lun...

Update: the generous donations you made during my birthday to support development of a birthing center in Bafaluto have been happily received by the community. One of my graduate students is doing a community survey of teen s*x education and contraceptive use - reducing fertility rates and teen pregnancy can help prevent infant and child mortality. Meanwhile, Gibriel Fatty and Samba Camara are working with the Ministry of Health to match our donations and provide staffing on the ground. Thank you, one and all!

I am so proud to say that we reached - and even exceeded - our fundraising goal for September. We - and all of the Kairo Scholars and their families - deeply appreciate your generosity. Abaraka!

Let's get rid of the bad karma from last night's debate performance - a donation as small as $10 can make a big difference. $10 will buy lunches for a school child for about 3 months. Bigger donations can support tuition, school uniforms, and books. And I have at least two students working on their thesis data collection for whom about $100 would mean the world. Go to www.kairofoundation.org or PM me to make a donation. Let's put a little love back into the world.

This is a call out for anyone who may have a gently used laptop, smart phone, or tablet to donate. I can have them mailed from the US to the Gambia. Many students do not have equipment like this. Even a smartphone means that they can download and watch lectures or other material that I send as a professor. Please help!

Next week is World Breastfeeding Awareness Week. We encourage all African women to breastfeed because it ensures full nutrition to the developing infant, protection from infectious disease, and it confers advantages to mothers as well.

Fund Student Research!

Another goal very close to my heart is to provide support to at least one master's thesis student. Like American students, Gambian MPH students need financial support for their data collection and analysis. The difference is, a small amount goes a long way! Click on this link to read about two students we hope to sponsor and learn about how their work will save African lives. http://www.kairofoundation.org/fund-student-research.html

The Kairo Foundation wishes to thank our donors. We will soon be able to enroll a very bright young girl into a private school - one of the best available. She has exceeded the academic limits of her village school. We are working with the new school (I can only disclose school names once I have approval from the principal) to pay her fees and ensure her placement in September. A HUGE THANK YOU!
