SPORTS DEPARTMENT ORGANIZES A MEMORABLE SPORTS DAY

In what was described as a spectacular and highly contested athletic showdown between four distinct houses; the sports department has on Thursday 23rd January, 2025, staged a successful and well attended inter-house athletics competition.
The annual event marked the 26th EDITION since inception.

However, participants partook in a competitive field and track events, wherein, the 2022 winners (Green House) were crowned champions in this year's inter-house after two years of unsatisfactory performance.

The spectacular event brought together people from different works of life including, students, teachers and sports enthusiasts among a host of others.
The head of the sports department, Mr Pabully Sanyang underscored the significance of the competition, stating that, the said event was organized to promote unity and the spirit of sportsmanship among the participants. The competition witnessed the participation of house masters and students towards promoting understanding and interest for sports. Last year's champions (Blue House) find it difficult to retain their glory after surprisingly securing fourth position.
The champions (Green house) made an impressive performance to break the long standing record of first position from other houses.

At the end of the competition, the points were announced as follows;

Green House 450 points
Yellow House 425 points
Red House 424 points
Blue House 368 points

STAGE SOCIETY ATTENDS CHINA-GAMBIA BANTABA EVENT

On January 14th, members of the STAGE SOCIETY of Latrikunda Sabiji UB/SSS attended a spectacular high level event at SDKJ International Conference Center in Bijilo.

The China- Gambia Bantaba Event was organized by China International Press Communication Center Alumni (CIPCC) through the Chinese embassy in Banjul, on the theme "Exploring the Next Generation of Journalists to Foster Gambia- China Relations".

However, the event targeted press clubs in five different senior secondary schools in region one to learn from the experiences of the CIPCC Alumni, and equally provide them with valuable knowledge, perspective, and practical insight on the role of Journalists in promoting international diplomacy and understanding. The event was attended by the ambassador and staff of the Chinese embassy, senior government officials, seasoned journalists, students and a host of others.
At the end of the event, participants had the opportunity to interact with the ambassador and CIPCC Alumni to discuss the dynamics in foreign relations, particularly between Gambia and China.

UNIVERSITY OF THE GAMBIA - VICE CHANCELLOR NATIONAL DEBATE CHAMPIONSHIP (VCNC) UPDATE

Issued: January 11, 2025

We are glad to report that our eloquent debaters have scaled to the next round of the VCNC debate.
This came after their outstanding performance in the first round, where they emerged first position in their house of four schools.
Similarly, in a well-contested second round, they emerged second position in their house of four schools.
Cumulatively, they're given 12th points for the final results of the two rounds and third position out of 21 schools.

We hope to scale up the points or maintain them for the next stage of the debate. I am confident that our phenomenal debaters can make it to the highest round in the contest.

We extend our gratitude to the school, the Stage Society, the English Department in particular, for the support. Kudos to the contestants and the coordinators.

CIVIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB CONCLUDES TWO-DAYS TRAINING

The Civic and Environmental Club of Latrikunda Sabiji Upper and Senior Secondary has on Tuesday, 31st December, 2024, wrapped up a two day intensive training for its members.
The session was aimed at building the capacity of its members in three thematic areas, notably; Public Speaking, Drug Abuse and Waste Management.
However, fifty participants benefitted from the training, most of whom are recently joined members. Participants were exposed to key concepts and skills in public speaking and also, developed knowledge on drugs and waste management.

The session witnessed individuals and group presentations on different areas in order to gauge the understanding of the participants.
Mr Dodou Jallow, the program officer of Kanifing Environmental Transformative Program (KETP), took participants through various ways of waste management and its impact on the society. Mr Jallow further acknowledged the effort of the school in promoting environmental safety and sustainability through tree planting, gardening and sanitation.
He promised to support the club in fulfilling its desired objectives, through engaging into students hands- on practical experience on compost making and other waste management methods.

To this end, Unusa Sambou and Baboucarr F. Jammeh, creatively engaged participants on drug abuse and public speaking respectively.
The session was later punctuated with a closing remark by Mr Bakary Jammeh and Mr Fodayba Singhateh, who indulged the participants to be committed and determined at all times. The duo equally implored participants to share the knowledge gained with their colleagues.

LK SABIJI UB/SSS ADMIN HOLDS SPMM

The administration of Latrikunda Sabiji Upper and Senior Secondary School on Saturday, 21st December, 2024 held a multi -stakeholder meeting, dubbed " School Performance Monitoring Meeting (SPMM). The high level session brought together staff, parents and education officials to discuss key issues concerning performance and effective school management.

However, the platform availed both staff and parents the opportunity to address the shortcomings confronting the education sector in the country, more especially in schools.

For the past years, the school has recorded significant improvement in academics, gear towards merging excellent and quality education for all.

According to the vice principal, Mr Muhammed Lamin Camara and Cluster monitor, Mr Lamin Yaffa, the drive is geared towards raising awareness among education stakeholders in a bid to promote effective teaching and learning in schools. The session also focuses on the reflection of GABECE 2023, outlining students performance.

To this end, parents equally implored and enjoined the authorities to provide adequate resources in schools in order to enhance performance and competent based approaches in teaching and learning. According to them, this will ensure effective and efficient service delivery in the education sector.

Finally, parents hailed the administration and staff for their efforts towards their children's education and promised to work closely with the administration henceforth.

LK SABIJI UB/SSS ANNIHILATES DEEPER LIFE SSS

The giants of Latrikunda Sabiji UB/SSS, Malick Jallow and Alasan Bah have made an outstanding performance in stage two of the ongoing Fanta Science and Maths Regional Quiz Championship.

The highly competitive showdown, reflected a win over Deeper Life Senior Secondary School with 28 points.

The duo will face Nusrat Senior Secondary School in the semi final, slated for tomorrow 17th December, 2024 at the Regional office, Kanifing.

AGRIC STUDENTS IN ACTION

Latrikunda Sabiji UB/SSS - A citadel of learning, where students are exposed to both theory and practicals in their respective domains.

Earlier last week, Agric students had engaged in practical work experience with their horticulture teachers.

The activity aimed at exposing students on different horticultural methods and techniques. The work involves; bed measurement, soil testing, tilling, sowing and watering.

However, the school intends to equip students on different methods and techniques in agriculture as a way to enhance skills through agro- based approaches.

LK SABIJI UB/SSS TRIUMPHS OVER NDOWS' COMPREHENSIVE SSS

On Friday, 13th December, 2024, LK Sabiji UB/SSS made a successful debut in Fanta Science and Maths Regional Quiz Championship, sailing to the second stage of the competition. The highly competitive showdown reflected a win over Ndows' Comprehensive Senior Secondary School.

As the showdown advances to the third and fourth round respectively, Malick Jallow and Alasan Bah smashed the board of the competition and eventually secured victory in the first stage of the championship. In what was described as an intellectual contest, proofing the sense of mathematical and analytical prowess, the duo showcased their skills to collect points in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Gambega questions.

However, our giants will lock horns with Deeper Life Senior Secondary School on Monday, 16th December, 2024 at the Regional office, Kanifing for the second stage of the championship.

BUSINESS CLUB FIRST EXCO BIDS FAREWELL

The first executive council of the Business club officially bid farewell to the club on Friday 29th November, 2024, after meritoriously serving the club for one academic year. The handing- over ceremony witnesses the transfer of power to the newly selected executive members.

Speaking at the event, head of the business department who equally serves as one of the coordinators, Mr Babucarr Samateh thanked the outgoing executive members for their outstanding contribution and effort in building the structures of the club.
He further advised the current members to promote the aims and objectives of the club, as it is set up to achieve academic excellence through promoting resilience and competent based approaches in business studies and its related disciplines.

The club was officially launched on the 19th January, 2024 with the aim to enhance the understanding and interest of business students on different domains in business studies, more especially in schools and the job market.
Mr Lamin L. Darboe and Mr Omar Fatty (commercial teachers) both applauded the new executive members for their interest in holding positions in the club. The duo, implored the members to work as a team in order to achieve great opportunities and successes.

Acknowledging the support of the coordinators and members, Yahya Gassama, the outgoing president, hailed the administration and staff for their support towards their aspirations as a committee. He challenged the new executive to be steadfast and resilient in carrying out their functions. The event was attended by Mr Yankuba Sanyang and Mr Muhammed Conteh, heads of stream grade 10 and 11 respectively.

To this end, Abba Jarju of 11 Business one (1) is the current president of the Business Club effective, 29th November, 2024.

ISLAMIC CLUB HOLDS QURANIC AND QUIZ COMPETITION

The Islamic Club of Latrikunda Sabiji Upper and Senior Secondary has on Friday 29th November, 2024, organized a mega Quranic and Quiz competition among the students.

The spectacular event brought together staff and students to have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the teaching of the Holy Quran.

This year's gathering marks the second edition, aimed at impacting and instilling the Islamic faith in the minds and hearts of the students, more especially promoting the fundamental pillars of islam.
The vice principal of the school, Mr Muhammed Lamin Camara, hailed the organisers and equally enjoined them to shape and mold the young minds towards the practice of the islamic religion.

The renowned youth preacher, Firdaws Makalo reminds the gathering of the importance of Islam and equally implored the ummah to balance the "Deen and Duniyaa" meaning the religion and the world. The event witnesses Quranic recitation, Quiz, Debate, Poetry presentation among a host of others.

Giving the closing remark, the teacher coordinator of the club, Oustass Dodou Fatty, extends his heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation to the administration, staff and students for their outstanding contribution and support. He further described the event as a well organized and planned one, stating that, this will enable them to prepare the students for future competitions within and outside the school premises.

Conclusively, Mariama Manneh of 11 Home Economics emerged winner in Quranic competition while Fatoumatta Sanneh of 10 Science secured the second place and Mahmud Ousman Saidy of Grade 7 came out third position respectively.

CAREER DAY SPARKS INSPIRATION AT LATRIKUNDA SCHOOL

Latrikunda School came alive today as The Stage Society hosted a vibrant Career Day, bringing together accomplished professionals from various fields to inspire and guide students on their future paths. The event, a first of its kind, aimed to ignite ambition, broaden horizons, and provide practical insights into a range of career opportunities.

The school’s ground buzzed with excitement as experts: Fatoumatta Zahra Jallow from UTG Career & Wellness Unit, ASP Binta from the Gambia Police Force, His Lordship Magistrate Ismaila Dibba from Bundung Magistrate Court, Chef Bojang, CEO of Spice Hub, Mr Nyaninka Manjang, UTGSU President, Mr Omar A. Manjang of Green Yard Agric Business, Mr Alphonso Mendy of University of Applied Sciences, Engineering & Technology (USET), Mr Alieu Sambou of Gaye Njoro Skills Academy, Mr Musa Badjie, School Administrator, Kairaba SSS, Mr Momodou Baka Dem of Media Academy for Journalism & Communications and Dr Lamin Jaiteh of Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, all took the stage to share their journeys. With personal stories and valuable advice, the speakers captivated the audience, sparking curiosity and motivation among the students.

In his keynote address, the Vice Principal of the School, Oustass Camara commended the coordinators for organizing such a transformative event. He emphasized the importance of career guidance in shaping students' aspirations and aligning them with their talents.

Miss Kaddy Kanteh who doubles as the Head of Modern Language Department and Head Coordinator of the Stage Society described the program as a success, noting the enthusiasm and active participation of both teachers and students. She recognized the efforts of the administration in making this program a success. In furtherance, she honoured and appreciated the relentless support and steadfastness of Mr Ebrima Sanyang and the entire staff of the school in their diverse ways in making this event a success. “We believe this day has planted seeds of ambition and determination in our peers,” she concluded.

The Career Day concluded with a vote of thanks, where the Head Boy, Foday Drammeh, acknowledged the speakers' contributions and the organizers' efforts. The event left an indelible mark on the students, equipping them with inspiration and practical knowledge for their future endeavours.

Latrikunda Sabiji UB/SS School continues to demonstrate its commitment to holistic education, ensuring students are well-prepared to excel both academically and professionally.

LK SABIJI UB/SSS LAUNCHES STEAM CLUB

Science and Mathematics department of Latrikunda Sabiji UB/SSS has on Friday 22nd November, 2024 jointly launched it's first ever student- scientific club dubbed, The STEAM Club.

The event brought together staff and students to reflect on the importance of STEAM education in our schools.

Speaking at the official launching ceremony, head of the mathematics department, Mr Alieu Dukureh underscored the significance of the club in the school, stating that, it would enhance the understanding and interest of students in mathematics and science related disciplines. He took the moment to dissect the meaning of the acronym STEAM, in which he said, each letter represents an educational domain, notably, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ARTS and MATHEMATICS.
This according to him, promises to promote knowledge and skills in young people more especially in the area of Science and Technology.
The club encompasses the following fields; Science, Technical, Vocational and Agriculture.

Speaker after speaker among them the acting vice principal, Mr Muhammed Lamin Camara expressed gratitude and sincerely applauded the coordinators for the foresight. He equally reminds the students to actively participate in the development of the club for a more vibrant society.
The event also witnesses quiz and drama performances from its members.

Finally, the occasion was later punctuated with a presentation of hand-work practicals including; assembly stage and five star hotel by the vocational students.
