The final day of school on June 17th was so much fun! Slip n' slide, dunk tank, t-shirt signing and challenge soccer matches... a great way to end a weird, great year. See you all August 31st!
The learners at Banjul American International School are all writers and Friday was a chance to share expressive readings of their latest work. From Pre Kindergarten to High School students read their pieces. #BookMonth #Gambia #Banjul @BAISGambia https://pic.twitter.com/nwl2xWNQSo
Middle and High School students enjoyed a mini engineering contest yesterday competing for an imaginary trip to The Bahamas to build a catapult that could project a ping pong ball the farther than others! Nice to be in a school where everyone collaborates kindly. @BAISGambia www.BAISGambia.org
Looking for something to do with the kids today? Consider the Family Fun Day at HypoLink Village -- with masks on of course!
What an amazing Art Show we had at BAIS today. Students from Pre-Kindergarten to High School all had pieces on display. Students took separate Gallery Walks in order to maintain separate pods with our COVID protocols, and all ages learned how to engage in art xhibits and appreciate pieces thoughtfully.

Just wish the parents and outsiders could have joined us! Hats off to the artists and to Ms Leah Woldman, BAIS Art teacher, for a powerful event.

I thank my lucky stars to be part of a school community that has WhatsApp groups with all parents that are filled with positivity and supportive parent comments, even in difficult times!

BAIS teachers regularly send messages to parents to share the learning happening in classes. This amazing message was sent this morning about the learning in an Elementary class:

"Yesterday, we discussed the seven criteria used to identify living organisms; we found that viruses are contradictory creatures! Students discussed that a virus fails the criteria, "Living things grow." because viruses replicate (not reproduce) and that there are no baby sized viruses, only fully formed. Therefore, they don't grow.

But then M raised his hand, asking, "But can't a virus grow more dangerous after mutations?" Marvelous question, M!"

Bring your children to BAIS to be taught to ponder, wonder and think critically!

BAIS Garden planting this week!

#BAISGambia Middle School students turned over and prepared the soil yesterday in the garden beds and elementary classes began planting today: okra, wonjo, tomatoes, cucumbers and much more!

"We're neither pure, nor wise, nor good
We'll do the best we know.
We'll build our house and chop our wood
And make our garden grow.
And make our garden grow!

BAIS -The Gambia

Welcome to the Banjul American International School! Originally known as the Banjul American Embassy School, our school was founded in 1984 by a small group of American families with support from the US Embassy. In December 2016, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to change our name to the Banjul American International School to reflect our globally-minded curriculum and our diverse international community of students and parents. BAIS continues to maintain a strong relationship with the US Embassy and receives an annual grant from the US State Department's Office of Overseas Schools. We are proud to be the only independently accredited school in The Gambia, with full accreditation through 2023 by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
