UEG CBPSS Cohort 7 Undertakes Community Engagement Field Trip to the URR.

The University of Education The Gambia (UEG), through the Community Based Policing and Security Studies (CBPSS) Programme, successfully conducted a five-day community engagement field trip to the Upper River Region (URR) from Monday, 17th to Friday, 21st August 2026.

A total of 43 students from the 7th Cohort, accompanied by five lecturers, participated in the field trip, which provided an important opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with real-life community experiences.

The field engagement focused on fostering direct dialogue between students and community members on key issues relating to community security, emerging threats, local security concerns, community-based initiatives, conflict prevention, and relationships between communities and security institutions.

During the five-day exercise, the students engaged with six communities, including Bajonkoto, Perrai Tenda and Sutukonding, among others. Through interactive discussions and community consultations, participants gained valuable insights into the lived experiences, perspectives and security priorities of communities in the region.

The field trip also provided students with practical exposure to the principles of community based policing, participatory security management, stakeholder engagement and collaborative approaches to peace and security.

For the CBPSS students, the exercise was more than an academic requirement, it was an opportunity to listen, learn and understand how communities themselves contribute to creating safer and more resilient societies.

UEG continues to promote experiential learning and community engagement as essential components of professional education, equipping students with the knowledge, skills and practical competencies required to address contemporary security and development challenges.

From the classroom to the community, UEG is preparing professionals who understand that sustainable security begins with partnership, trust and meaningful community engagement.

UEG Welcomes New Students to the ECD and Amana Summer Programmes

The University of Education, The Gambia (UEG), today, Tuesday 28th July 2026, conducted an orientation programme for newly enrolled students of the Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Amana Summer Programmes.

The orientation was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, who warmly welcomed the students to the University and congratulated them on securing admission into their respective programmes. He described their enrolment as an important step towards personal growth, professional development, and lifelong learning.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged students to approach their studies with dedication, discipline, and determination. He reminded them that success is achieved through hard work, consistency, and a commitment to excellence, urging them to make the most of the opportunities available at UEG.

"Your admission to UEG is not merely an opportunity to earn a qualification; it is an opportunity to transform your future, develop your potential, and contribute meaningfully to society. Remain focused, embrace learning, and let excellence guide your journey," Prof. Ahmed advised.

The Registrar, Mr. Demba S.M. Yabou, also addressed the students and emphasised the importance of maintaining good academic standing throughout their studies. He advised them to work diligently and ensure that their CGPA does not fall below the minimum graduation requirement of 2.5. He further encouraged students to support one another, foster positive relationships, and cultivate a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. He further emphasized that their programmes are intensive ones being held in a short period of holidays, therefore requiring full participation and regular attendance to lectures.

The orientation provided students with valuable information on academic regulations, student responsibilities, and the support services available at the University, equipping them with the knowledge needed for a successful academic journey.

UEG wishes all students in the ECD and Amana Summer Programmes a rewarding and successful learning experience.

UEG Congratulates Mr. Sulayman Ceesay on the Successful Launch of His New Book

UEG Hosts National Research and Innovation Fund Information Session

The University of Education, The Gambia (UEG) today, Friday, 24th July 2026, welcomed a delegation from the National Research & Innovation Fund-NRIF The Gambia for an information and guidance session on the Fund's ongoing Call for Research Proposals.

The engagement aimed to equip UEG staff with the knowledge and tools needed to access available research grant opportunities. During the session, the NRIF team delivered a comprehensive presentation on the Fund's financing windows, eligibility requirements, proposal development, and the application process through the NRIF Grants Management System.

The programme concluded with an interactive question and answer session, providing participants with the opportunity to seek clarification on funding opportunities and the application process.

UEG remains committed to strengthening its research culture and supporting staff to secure competitive research funding for impactful scholarship and innovation.

UEG and Gambia Armed Forces Strengthen Partnership for Professional Security Education

The University of Education, The Gambia (UEG) today Thursday 23rd July 2026, paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) as part of its ongoing stakeholder engagement and institutional partnership initiatives.
The UEG delegation, led by the Registrar, Mr. Demba S.M. Yabou, met with the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General Sait Njie, who represented the CDS. The visit was aimed at updating the GAF leadership on the University's Community-Based Policing and Security Studies Programme, a flagship professional programme designed to strengthen knowledge, leadership, and collaboration across the country's security sector.

During the engagement, the Registrar expressed appreciation to the GAF leadership for granting the University the opportunity to engage on issues of mutual interest. He highlighted the significance of the programme in enhancing professional competencies, promoting inter-agency collaboration, and equipping security personnel with contemporary knowledge in policing, security management, conflict resolution, human rights, and community engagement.

Mr. Yabou noted that the programme currently attracts participants from both civilian institutions and various national security services, including the Police, Immigration, Prisons, Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Fire and Rescue Services, and The Gambia Armed Forces. While acknowledging the valuable participation of personnel from several institutions, he encouraged the GAF to increase the enrolment of military personnel so they can equally benefit from the academic and professional development opportunities offered by UEG. He also reiterated the University’s efforts to upgrade the program to a degree program.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General Sait Njie warmly welcomed the University and commended UEG for its continued contribution to national capacity building. He fondly recalled the legacy of The Gambia College, from which many senior military officers, including members of the current GAF leadership, received their training before its transition into the University of Education, The Gambia.

Brigadier General Njie reaffirmed the GAF's commitment to supporting the programme and pledged to encourage more military personnel to enrol. He further recommended that UEG explore the expansion of the programme as part of the upgrading by introducing additional courses in areas such as defence studies, strategic security, military leadership, peacekeeping, Civil Military Relations, and other emerging security disciplines to better respond to the evolving needs of the country's security architecture.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration between UEG and the Gambia Armed Forces in advancing professional education, research, and human resource development for national peace, security, and sustainable development.

UEG Staff Complete International Higher Education Management Training in China.

The University of Education, The Gambia (UEG) is delighted to announce that seven members of its staff have successfully completed a two-week international Training Programme on "Higher Education and University Management for The Gambia", held from 1st to 14th July 2026 at Zhejiang Normal University in Jinhua, People's Republic of China.

The Training Programme was sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and brought together 38 senior staff members from universities, colleges and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across The Gambia under the coordination of the Ministry of Higher Education,Research Science and Technology (MoHERST). The programme formed part of the longstanding cooperation between The Gambia and China in strengthening human resource capacity and advancing higher education development.

The UEG delegation was led by Mr. Bubacarr Sambou, Head of Relations, and comprised Mr. Ismaila Bojang (Lecturer), Mr. Bubacarr Bah (Finance Officer), Mr. Baboucarr Mboob (Lecturer), Mrs. Fatoumatta Colley (Lecturer), Mr. Ebou Touray (Lecturer), and Mr. Abdoulie Jallow (Personal Assistant to the Vice Chancellor).

Throughout the programme, participants engaged in intensive lectures, interactive discussions and institutional exchanges on contemporary issues shaping higher education globally. Key areas covered included Educational Wisdom in Traditional Chinese Culture; Diplomatic Ideology of President Xi Jinping; Team Building and Leadership; Enhancement of Management Skills; Internationalisation of Higher Education; Construction of University Faculty Teams, with Zhejiang Normal University as a case study; Educational Philosophy in the New Era of China; Higher Education Policy and Management; Cross-cultural Education and Disciplinary Development from the Perspective of Comparative Literature; and Quality Assurance in Higher Education among other relevant topics.

In addition to classroom sessions, participants undertook educational and cultural visits to universities, historical landmarks and local communities, providing first-hand exposure to China's educational system, community development, traditional culture, tea culture, technological advancement and everyday life. These experiences fostered intercultural understanding while showcasing how education, innovation and cultural heritage contribute to national development.

The knowledge, skills and international perspectives gained through the programme will further strengthen UEG's efforts to promote excellence in teaching, learning, research, university governance and institutional management. The programme also reinforces the University's commitment to building strategic international partnerships and enhancing the professional capacity of its staff in line with UEG's vision of becoming a globally recognised institution of higher learning.
