In the spirit of International Women’s Day and the broader recognition of March as a month dedicated to celebrating women, the UTG Inter-School Alliance for Change continues this week to honour the remarkable contributions, leadership, and resilience of women, especially its female candidates. This moment serves as a reminder of the importance of advancing gender equality and creating spaces where women can lead, participate, and influence the future of our student body.

As we celebrate women in leadership, we proudly spotlight those who consistently demonstrate courage, competence, and commitment to service within our student community. Among them is Isatou Bah,our aspirant for the position of *Auditor General. Her aspiration reflects the growing strength and voice of women in student governance.

I, Ismaila Fadera, a 400-level Development Studies student at the School of Arts and Sciences; current President of the Social Sciences and Humanities Students’ Association (SoSHSA); recipient of Youth of the Year Award (2023); Youth Impact Award (2024) and Youth Ambassador of the year (2025), hereby formally declare my intent to contest for the position of President in the forthcoming UTGSU elections under the banner of the transformative UTG Inter-School Alliance for Change.

Serving as President of SoSHSA, one of the largest and most vibrant student associations at the University of The Gambia, has given me the opportunity to engage directly with the realities, aspirations and concerns of students. Through this role, I have worked to strengthen student representation, advocate for academic and welfare interests and promote a culture of inclusive and accountable leadership.

My leadership journey has been guided by the belief that student leadership must always be rooted in service, responsibility and collective progress. The experiences gained through leading a diverse and dynamic student body have prepared me to contribute meaningfully to a stronger, more responsive Students’ Union.

I believe the UTG Students’ Union must continue to stand as a united voice for students; championing their welfare, protecting their interests and creating opportunities that empower them to thrive academically and socially. It is with profound honour, humility and a steadfast commitment to service that I, Muhammed Bah, a Third-Year Law Student at the Faculty of Law, current Research Minister of the Law Students’ Association, former Deputy IPRO of UTGDA, and a member of the Secretariat of both the 11th Executive Council of the Law Students’ Association and the 12th Executive Council of the UTG Debate Association, hereby officially declare my intention to contest for the position of Secretary General in the forthcoming UTG-SU Elections under the banner of the UTG Inter-School Alliance for Change.

My journey within the University of The Gambia has been guided by a deep commitment to service, discipline, and institutional development. Through my roles within the Law Students’ Association, and the UTG Debate Association, I have contributed to strengthening administrative coordination, policy documentation, and student-centered initiatives that continue to shape our academic community.

The office of Secretary General demands precision, accountability, administrative understanding and an unwavering fidelity to the Constitution of our Union. With your support, we will consolidate the progress made thus far, confront our governance challenges with courage, and elevate our Union to a standard worthy of the institution we represent.

I, Fatou Kinneh Sanyang, a 400-level Development Studies student at the School of Arts and Sciences; Welfare Minister of the Participatory Social Research Association (PSRA); committee member of the Welfare and Culture Ministry of SoSHSA and CEO of Yoba Kitchen, hereby formally declare my intention to contest for the position of Welfare and Culture Minister in the forthcoming UTG-SU Elections under the banner of the UTG Inter-School Alliance for Change.

This is not merely a bid for a
position; it is a commitment to serve, to inspire and to strengthen the pillars of welfare and cultural vibrancy within our university community. Over the years, I have actively contributed to student welfare initiatives and have gained firsthand experience in student support coordination, engagement, planning and responsive welfare advocacy.

Beyond campus structures, I currently serve as Programs Coordinator for Women4Health Gambia, an actress, and social justice advocate. The experiences I have gained over years have shaped my leadership, creativity, empathy and organizational discipline and prepared me to bridge gaps, foster cultural pride, strengthen welfare systems and create an environment where every student feels valued, supported and represented.

This decision is not born out of ambition alone but from a deep commitment to service, structured leadership and measurable impact. As a Licensed Registered Nurse and an Advanced Diploma holder from the Gambia College School of Nursing and Midwifery, my academic and professional journey has been grounded in discipline, advocacy and results-driven community engagement.

As the founder of Nurse Nyima Health & Wellness Foundation and the current Social Secretary for the staff Association of Kanifing General Hospital, I have consistently championed gender equity, preventive health awareness and community-based interventions across The Gambia. My leadership philosophy is rooted in accountability, structureand sustainable reform.

I envision a UTG where health advocacy is institutionalised, gender policies are strengthened and student welfare is prioritized within a practical and implementable framework. I am prepared to work collaboratively, strategically and transparently to build a healthier, safer and more equitable student community.

I, Ebrima Dem Ndow, a Fourth-Year Economics Major, hereby formally declare my intention to contest for the position of Technical and Logistics Minister in the forthcoming UTG Students’ Union Elections under the reputable banner of the UTG Inter-School Alliance for Change.

My journey in leadership has been progressive, practical, and performance-driven. I had the privilege of serving as the Deputy Technical & Logistics Minister and Technical & Logistics Minister of the 21st and 22nd Executive Councils of ECOMANSA respectively, where I developed hands-on experience in operational support, structured coordination, institutional planning, supervising technical arrangements, and ensuring seamless ex*****on of council activities.

My aspiration is not a pursuit of title, but an expansion of tested service. It is not a desire for recognition, but a readiness for greater responsibility. It is not about visibility, but about viability.It is not a new beginning, but a continuation of proven leadership.

I, Vivian Mendy, a Fourth-Year Development Studies student and the current Deputy Sports Minister of SoSHSA, hereby formally declare my intention to contest for the position of Sports Minister in the forthcoming UTG-SU Elections under the banner of the UTG Inter-School Alliance for Change.

My journey within the University’s sporting community, as both an active football player and a sports administrator, has equipped me with practical experience, leadership exposure, and a deep passion for the development of sports at UTG. These experiences have strengthened my resolve to contribute meaningfully toward building a more inclusive, vibrant, and progressive sporting environment for all students.

I am driven not merely by the desire to lead but by the commitment to serve with integrity, accountability, and dedication. I believe that sports remain a powerful tool for unity, talent development, and student engagement. Esteemed Students,

I, Isatou Bah, popularly known as Aisha Bah, a 4th Year Accountancy Major, hereby formally declare my intention to contest for the position of Auditor General in the forthcoming UTG-SU Elections under the banner of UTG Inter-School Alliance for Change.

Having served on both the Union’s Finance and Audit Committees, I have gained practical experience, a solid understanding of financial accountability, and institutional responsibility. These experiences have equipped me with the competence, discipline, and technical expertise required to effectively serve as Auditor General.

The Office of the Auditor General demands integrity, transparency, and diligence. I am prepared to uphold these principles and ensure that every dalasi entrusted to the Union is properly accounted for and used in the best interest of students.
