_Today Being 9th of Muharram, Endeavour to fast If are Able to Fast_

*🌹Fasting the day of Ashoora*

_⚜ The Prophet (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) came to al-Madīnah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of ʿĀshūrā._

He asked, *‘What is this?’*

They responded, *‘This is a virtuous day, as this is the day when Allāh saved the Children of Isrā’īl from their enemy. Thus, Mūsá fasted on this day.’*

He said, *‘We have more right to Mūsá than you.’ (or we are closer to Musa than you because Musa was a Muslim and we are Muslim)*

*So he (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) fasted on this day and ordered the (people) to fast.*

📚 [Ibn ʿAbbās (RaḍiyAllāhu ʿanhu), Sahīh Bukharī, (No. 2004)]

_⚜ Abū Qatadah (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Prophet (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) was asked about ʿĀshūrā and he responded:_

*It expiates (sins) for the previous year.*

⚜ The Prophet (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) said:

*Whoever wishes may observe Saum (fast) on the day of ‘Ashura’.*

⚜ Ibn ʿAbbās (radiyAllāhu ‘anhu) said:

*I never saw the Prophet (ṣall Allahu ʿalayhi wa-’ālihi wa-sallam) seeking to fast a day, giving it preference over another, except this day, the day of ʿĀshūrā, and this month, meaning the month of Ramaḍān.*

_⚜ From Ibn ʿAbbās (raḍiyAllāhu ‘anh) that he said concerning ʿĀshūrā:_

*Oppose the Jews and fast the 9th and the 10th.*

*🌹A Reminder Benefits the Believers*

The Messenger ﷺ said:

*"There are no days wherein the righteous action is more beloved to Allaah than these ten days."*

They said: *'O Messenger of Allaah, not even Jihaad in the path of Allaah?'*

So he said: *'Not even Jihaad in the path of Allaah, except for a man who goes out with his person and his wealth, and then he did not return with anything from that.'"*

*🌹His Fear Of Allāh*

The Prophet ﷺ said:

*“Death approached a man and when he had no hope of surviving, he said to his family, ‘When I die, gather much wood and build a fire to burn me. When the fire has eaten my flesh and reached my bones, take my bones and grind them and scatter the resulting dust in the sea on a windy day, for I swear by Allāh, if Allāh takes hold of me, He will punish me with a punishment that He has not punished any of the creation with.’ So that was done, but Allāh collected his scattered particles and brought him back together and asked him, ‘Why did you do that?’ The man replied, ‘Out of fear of you.’ So Allāh forgave him.”*

[Sahīh Al-Bukhārī, 3479. Translated By Abū Khadeejah Abdul-Wahid]

Question to Shaykh al-Albani:
There are two narrations. One narration reads;
Seek help in having your needs met by being discreet, for everyone who is blessed with something is envied (saheeh al-Jami’ 943)
Yet, in many places, we read that we should mention the favors of Allah. I do not understand how to determine this. Is there a certain period of time that someone should conceal his needs?

Shaykh al-Albani: It is not hidden from you, that with regards to individuals and their relationship with others, there are things which are obvious and apparent. An example of this is the narration when a Bedouin man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) wearing a tattered garment. He asked the man: “Do you have any wealth?” The man replied: “I have every type of wealth which Allah has given me, including camels, cow, sheep, dirhams, and dinars (currency of that time).” The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to him: “If Allah gives you wealth, then allow it to be seen upon you. For indeed Allah loves that His favors are displayed upon His servant”. (Mishkat al-Masabih 4352)

Therefore, if a Muslim implements this narration and dresses according to his wealth, this is clear. He does not conceal this. As for the narration “Seek help in having your needs met by being discreet”; this is regarding affairs that need to remain secret. For example, in the industry of inventors and inventions. The person does not speak about these matters because he wants to attain permissible earnings. And if he speaks about it, someone may precede him to it and thus, he will not attain his goals and needs.
