Today I was allowed to speak to the members of Jamorai Gambia Foundation on behalf of Rotary Leudal What a warm welcome - and what an engagement!

Thanks to your wonderful donation, a first step has been taken towards a borehole (water well with tower, 10,000 liters tank and solar pump) in Wassadou, Gambia.

💧 This means:
– access to clean water every day (instead of any day like now)
- children who no longer get sick from contaminated water
- not dehydrated and cared for to and from school
– more possibilities for vegetable gardens and self-sufficiency

Water is life. And access to clean water changes everything.

We at the Jamorai Gambia Foundation are immensely proud to celebrate Lamin Danso of Koba K***a Upper and Senior Secondary School, Region 6, on being named the Regional Winner of the prestigious The Gambia Teacher Prize 2026, organised by the Namie Foundation.

This recognition comes as no surprise to us.

Lamin Danso is not only an outstanding classroom teacher shaping young minds in one of the most remote parts of our country, but he is also a committed and selfless volunteer with our foundation. Beyond the classroom, he tirelessly coordinates and supports many of our projects across the North Bank Region and beyond. His consistency, humility, and dedication to community development are truly remarkable — not many can serve with such passion and reliability.

In communities often overlooked, Lamin stands tall as a beacon of hope. He nurtures curiosity, builds confidence, and reminds every child that their dreams are valid and achievable.

RESTORING WATER, RESTORING HOPE AT WASSADOU LOWER BASIC SCHOOL 💧✨🤲🏻

I come before you once again with a humble and urgent appeal.

At Wassadou Lower Basic School, there is currently a serious water shortage affecting both the school campus and the garden yard. Although there is an existing borehole system, it unfortunately does not have enough strength to pump water into the tank and distribute it properly through the pipes. As a result, the children and staff continue to struggle with access to reliable water.

Together with our dedicated volunteers and two board members from Jamorai Gambia Foundation, we personally visited the school to assess the situation firsthand. Seeing the condition of the water system deeply touched us and strengthened our resolve to seek support from our ever-reliable donors. Water is not a luxury — it is a basic necessity for life, hygiene, and a healthy learning environment.

To restore and improve the system, the school urgently needs:
• Two new solar panels
• 4,000-liter water tanks
• Strengthening of the water tower for proper flow
• New pipes
• Painting and finishing works

FROM THE NETHERLANDS TO THE GAMBIA: A WEEK OF IMPACT, UNITY, AND RENEWED HOPE 🌍✨

Last month, we had the absolute honor of welcoming our two dedicated board members, Dr. Wilbert Sluiter and Judith Sluiter, to The Gambia for a full week of meaningful engagement and connection.

Their visit was not just ceremonial — it was intentional, heartfelt, and deeply impactful.

From the very beginning, their focus was clear: to reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and most importantly, to witness firsthand the progress of the projects they continue to support from afar. Together with our committed volunteers, they traveled across Basse, Wassadou, and Tanji, visiting both completed and ongoing project sites.

It was a fruitful week filled with powerful moments — conversations with beneficiaries, laughter shared with communities, reflections on milestones achieved, and honest discussions about the road ahead. Seeing the smiles on faces, the clean water flowing, the strengthened school environments, and the unity among volunteers made the experience even more rewarding.

And truthfully? The expectations are even higher now.

Their presence has reignited fresh energy, new ideas, and greater ambition for what we can accomplish together in the coming months and years.

Upon returning home to Netherlands, their dedication did not go unnoticed. The couple was passionately featured by Hallo Magazine in recognition of their invaluable contributions toward community development in The Gambia. To be celebrated in their own country for impacting lives thousands of miles away is something truly special.

Acts of compassion like theirs deserve to be celebrated every single day.

A BEAUTIFUL ACT OF KINDNESS THAT CHANGED LIVES 💧

Through the generosity of Schenkerij “de Boomgaard” in Benthuizen, The Netherlands, a powerful idea became a life-changing reality.

By donating €1 from every bottle of water sold, the restaurant and its amazing customers helped raise the full amount needed to construct a clean water well in The Gambia.

Today, an entire community in Batosilo Ward now has access to safe and clean drinking water — all thanks to this simple but impactful initiative.

INSPIRING ACTS OF THE PELGRIMSHOEVE VOLUNTEERS 🌍

We would like to highlight and celebrate the truly inspiring work of the Pelgrimshoeve volunteers, whose dedication and generosity continue to change lives across the globe.

Through their yearly sales, these amazing volunteers raise funds to support charity organizations both locally and internationally. This year, we were incredibly fortunate to be among the selected charities to receive their support. From the donated funds, we successfully constructed two well-fitted water wells in The Gambia, bringing clean and safe drinking water to communities in need.

This impact was made possible through the wonderful coordination of Mieke and Jan from The Netherlands, whose commitment and belief in our mission helped turn generosity into lasting change.

The Pelgrimshoeve is a large second-hand shop entirely run by volunteers. Each year, they carefully select around 200 charities at home and abroad, donating the shop’s profits to support meaningful and life-changing initiatives. Their model of compassion, sustainability, and service is truly admirable.

We are deeply grateful and sincerely thankful for this partnership. We look forward to strengthening our collaboration and creating even more impact together in the years to come.
