The Academy of Dog Welfare Behaviour & Learning

The Academy of Dog Welfare, Behaviour & Learning has been set up to provide a safe, supportive and informative space for anyone interested in learning about how dogs feel, think and learn and who would like to acquire skills that they can apply to the dogs in their care.

We offer education, courses and workshops to help dog guardians and caregivers understand and educate their dogs in a manner that moves away from traditional methods of ‘Sit’ ‘Stay’ ‘Down’ and instead embraces the principle that dogs are highly sentient beings who are here with us and not for us.

The ADWBL offers education and support on the following dog-related subjects including but not limited to-

-Understanding The Principles and Implications of Domestic Dog Welfare

-How/Why emotions affect and drive behaviours in dogs

-Understanding canine communication signals –
How dogs communicate when they’re feeling stressed, scared, anxious, in pain or simply bored.
Learn to identify what these signals look like, what they can mean, in what contexts they can happen and what are the safest and most effective methods to use that could help to minimize the risk of dog aggression and dog bite incidents.

-How to safely and effectively manage the leash and the environment for relaxed, enriching and confident walks.

-Learn to practice husbandry techniques to help your dog settle during vet visits, medical exams and taking medication or treatment.

-Early learning for puppies and their caregivers – How to give your puppy the best start in life

-Understanding separation distress in dogs; prevention, management and support.

-Elderly dog care including end of life care resources and support.

We do not use, support or accept harmful equipment and methods including, electric, prong and choke collars or any approaches that cause fear and pain to dogs.
