Emergency First Aid Training ⛑️🔝
On Sunday 1st March, eight members of our coaching team completed a comprehensive five-hour Emergency First Aid course delivered by Emma Wood from Heart Starterz.
The course covered essential life saving skills including CPR, use of an AED (defibrillator), recovery position, choking response, and the treatment of bleeding, shock, sprains and fractures. The practical session ensured everyone gained hands-on experience and the confidence to act quickly and effectively in an emergency.
As a club, the safety and wellbeing of our members is always our top priority. Our coaching team includes both experienced instructors who coach week in, week out, as well as newer members who have recently begun their coaching journey. For everyone, maintaining up-to-date first aid training is a vital part of their development and responsibility as role models within the club. It ensures we provide a safe training environment and gives parents and students reassurance that they are in capable hands.
Duncan and Ethan, who are working towards their Assistant Coaching qualifications, and Frederick and Olga, who are progressing towards their Level 2 qualifications, are continuing to build their knowledge and experience as they develop further within the coaching team. We are incredibly proud of their commitment and dedication.
A big thank you to Emma Wood and Heart Starterz for delivering such a valuable and engaging course.

Breaking Competition 💥💪🏼
On Tuesday 24th February, we held an exciting Breaking Competition for our Youth and Adult groups, with a fantastic total of 24 members taking part. The aim of the event was to demonstrate power, precision, and technical skill using both upper body strikes and foot techniques to break boards.
Each competitor worked their way through a total of seven boards, beginning with blue and progressing in difficulty through to red and orange. Impressively, several students managed to break the red board — which is typically one of the most challenging boards — with some even breaking two boards held together.
Participants were able to choose their preferred techniques. Most opted for punch or elbow strike for the hand technique category, and side kick for the foot technique category, showcasing both strength and clean ex*****on.
Youth Group Results
The Youth division was highly competitive. In the Hand Technique category, Konstantin and Connor were the final two standing. In an impressive finish, Konstantin secured the win by breaking the red and yellow boards held together using a powerful punch.
In the Foot Technique category, Kira stood out as the only competitor to successfully break through the green board with a strong and well executed side kick, earning her first place in the division.
Adult Group Results
The Adult division displayed outstanding power and control. Duncan (1st Dan) dominated the evening by winning both categories, with Gabriel earning a well deserved second place.
For the Hand Technique category, Duncan chose an elbow strike to break the red and orange boards held together. He then followed this with an exceptional side kick in the Foot Technique category, breaking the red and yellow boards held together to secure his second win of the night.
A massive thank you to Brandon Avellano (2nd Dan) for running the event so smoothly and professionally making the evening a great success. Thank you also to Master Edward Garcia for his help throughout the competition.
Finally, congratulations to all 24 participants for their courage, effort, and sportsmanship. Breaking requires not only physical strength but also confidence, focus, and commitment - and every student demonstrated these qualities throughout the evening. We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part and look forward to the next challenge!

Lorena Promoted to 5th Dan Master
On Sunday 7th December, a Dan Grading event took place in Coventry, UK, where we are incredibly proud to announce that Lorena Garcia successfully graded and was promoted to 5th Dan Master, marking a major milestone in her lifelong Taekwondo journey.
Lorena has been practising Taekwondo for as long as she can remember. She is an integral part of Gibraltar Taekwondo and has become very much the face of the club’s growth and development over the years. Her passion, dedication, and leadership continue to inspire students and instructors alike.
The grading panel consisted of Grand Master Neil Guest (8th Dan), Master Stavros (7th Dan), and Master Sediqi (7th Dan), whose expertise ensured a challenging and comprehensive assessment. Lorena travelled to the event with Master Edward Garcia (7th Dan), who is also Lorena’s father, and her partner, who flew over especially to support the grading.
During the examination, Master Edward partnered with Lorena for the self defence section, which featured knife defence, baton defence, seated defence, and several other components. Their sharp ex*****on, varied techniques, and overall technical precision stood out as a highlight of the day.
The event also provided a great opportunity to meet other coaches and Taekwondo enthusiasts, allowing us to extend our network and strengthen connections within the wider martial arts community.
Lorena would like to give a heartfelt thank you to club coach Megan Ruiz (2nd Dan) and Master Edward, for their support in helping her prepare for this achievement. Their encouragement and commitment played a vital role in her success.
We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Grand Master Neil and Louise for their wonderful hospitality throughout the trip.
Finally, we wish to congratulate everyone else who successfully graded on the day.
Please join us in congratulating Master Lorena on attaining her 5th Dan. A truly well-deserved accomplishment and a proud moment for our entire club.
