Lakeland Educ Initiative
Lakeland Education Initiative GH runs the GREEN READING CAMPAIGN. A director of Lakeland Education is in South Africa on a project.
It is a pro-environmental youth advocacy organization that uses education through Reading to create/raise awareness of social issues affecting the youth of Ghana, and Africa at large. The idea was muted in October 2012 by Acquilla Djaba, a young Ghanaian environmentalist who is passionate about the Galamsey (illegal mining) menace in Sub Saharan Africa. Hope the coming days present great opportunities for our outreach course
The anti-illegal mining war can be fought on several fronts. Soft strategies also work. Like anti-armed robbery, unleashing the security forces alone is not enough. The young population is the crust of the work force in every country. Hence, education, awareness creation, campaigns, and sustained civil orientation can make the trick. Let us keep talking...
The aspirations of the youth in mining towns in Africa can be sustained by adding many voices to the call to action. Let's help to liberate out of school teenage miners. If the African youth is secured, Europe will be safe! Americans will be safe! REMEMBER!
We are hopeful corporate responds in time to whip up the pace and zeal for the campaign.

THE NOVEL, SHADES OF PLUNDER. AN ANTI - GALAMSEY BOOK TO BE DISTRIBUTED ACROSS GHANA
Your pains are shared everyday; People living around the galamsey mines.
When it comes to tackling young miners in Ghana one model also comes up: the Randburg case in South Africa. In that project former miners were used to serve as mentors. Government sponsored programs in this areas have yielded little results. Studies had shown that young miners were more likely to participate in anti illegal mining campaigns that featured former miners, reformed gang members, local 'cult heroes.'
HELP CREATE THE AWARENESS! YOUTHS IN ILLEGAL MINING MUST BE DISCOURAGED!
Youth in minning communities will opt for alternative jobs or ventures if opportunities are made available. Social support systems must be activated and be seen to be accessible. Aware creation is also paramount and crucial.
