About Us

BIBIR-GHANA a local NGO based in Tamale has its operational areas in the Tamale Metropolis, Tolon/Kumbungu and Savelugu/Nanthon Districts. We work mainly with women and children. Our emphasis is on giving children a good environment and good health so that they may access education and gain the ability to be agents of positive change in their societies. 'Bibir' is a Dagaare word meaning

'children', and It is because of our passion to provide support for children that the NGO is named BIBIR-GHANA. Children can either be direct beneficiaries of our services, such as through the distribution of school materials, or they can also be indirect beneficiaries through the empowerment of their mothers. We believe that empowerment of women is of tantamount importance due to their role in raising the children. Once the women are educated and empowered the children's school going can be sustained. Most of our funds are due to the work and generousity of FOUNDACION INTERVIDA in Barcelona, Spain. Current projects we are working on include working with community members of the Savelugu/Nanthon district in supporting them to improve student enrollment and giving quality education to pupils in 10 selected non-performance schools. BIBIR works with eight communities in Tamale Metro and seven communities in Tolon/Kumbungu Assembly. In all 250 women and 160 men are engaged in different projects. The men are engaged in farming and livestock rearing whilst the women are also engaged in micro-credit and farming projects. BIBIR-GHANA is legally registered under the Registrar General's Department in Accra and as well as with the Social Welfare Department in Accra. Every activity BIBIR undertakes has as a goal to improve the situation of the child in the end. The main office is in the capital of the Northern Region, Tamale near the central market. In the 'Project' tab you will find an overview of different projects executed so far. We are mainly in EDUCATION, HEALTH, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT(ICT training & ASSISTANCE TO WOMEN IN SMALL SCALE BUSINESSES & FOOD SECURITY. BOARD OF ADVISORS
