In Ghana, the Persons with Disability Law (Act 715 of 2006) guarantees the right of persons with disabilities to participate and benefit from economic, social, political, creative and recreational activities in their communities and country. Unfortunately, however, persons with disabilities are generally seen as less able to contribute to the Ghanaian society in a positive way. Due to this percept
ion, persons with disabilities (PWDs) are more vulnerable economically and socially as they have less livelihood opportunities and lower social status. Persons with disabilities therefore generally constitute an impoverished marginalised group, characterised by a lack of access to public health, education, and other social services that would ideally support and protect persons with disabilities. YUMBA is aiming to tackle this through the provision of education in vocational skills to give these children the best chance in life.
