Damba Festival 2025
The Northern Regional Education Directorate joins the people of Dagbon in celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the 2025 Damba Festival.
As part of the celebration, the Director of Education, Alhassan Alidu Jnr, has instituted “Wear Smock”, where staff proudly adorn their traditional smocks and hats to showcase unity and identity through culture.
This initiative reflects our commitment to preserving tradition while promoting education that respects and uplifts our cultural values.

Yesterday, the Northern Regional Director of Education, together with the Hon. Northern Regional Minister, the Tamale Mayor, the Deputy Director-General (Q&A), and officers from the Regional Education Directorate, embarked on a monitoring exercise of the ongoing 2025 WASSCE in the Tamale Metro.

The team visited Tamale Girls’ SHS, Ghana SHS, Vittin SHTS, and St. Charles Minor Seminary/SHS, where they observed the conduct of the Social Studies papers. They also interacted with supervisors, candidates, WAEC officials, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth and credible running of the examination.

The Regional Director expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for their dedication and urged candidates to remain focused and confident as they write the exams.

On 2nd August 2025, I had the honour of serving as the Special Guest of Honour at the 2025 Graduation Ceremony of Pinnacle Star Academy - a remarkable event chaired by Director Abu Baba, former Director of Education for Mamprugu Moagduri in the North East Region.

Under the inspiring theme “Legacy of Excellence: Building Tomorrow,” the ceremony reminded us all of the vital roles we play in shaping the future of our learners. Graduation is not just a celebration of academic milestones - it is a tribute to the collective efforts of teachers, parents, and the broader community in nurturing potential and character.

I took the opportunity to commend Director Samata Mahama (Retired Municipal Director of Education, Sagnarigu) for her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to education. Her vision for Pinnacle Star Academy and her continued service, even in retirement, are a true inspiration.

To the proud graduates - Congratulations! You are the future we have been preparing for. Carry with you the values of hard work, integrity, and resilience as you step into the next phase of your journey. Build tomorrow with purpose and pride.

Our years of persistent advocacy for the timely disbursement and payment of outstanding Capitation Grant have finally yielded results.

This decisive action by Government marks a significant step, reflecting our sustained efforts and collaborative engagement with the Ministry of Education GH,Ghana Education Service, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, local community actors and CSO partners.

On Day 2 of the ongoing Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE), the Northern Regional Director of Education, Mr. Alhassan Alidu Jnr, continued his monitoring duties with a visit to the University for Development Studies (UDS), Dungu Campus.

A total of 1,997 candidates sat for the Pedagogy paper (covering SHS, JHS, and Primary levels) at two main venues - the UDS Multipurpose Hall and the Library - under the supervision of 75 invigilators.

Mr. Alhassan Alidu Jnr interacted with the Centre Coordinator, Mr. Adam Abu, the External Supervisor from the National Teaching Council, Mr. Prince Asante, and other examination officers. He commended the team for their orderly arrangements and professionalism.

The Regional Director encouraged the candidates to remain diligent and uphold integrity throughout the examination process, emphasizing the importance of pedagogical knowledge in shaping effective classroom practice.

The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mr. Alhassan Alidu Jnr, today monitored the ongoing Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) in the Northern Region.

The team visited two key examination centres - Bagabaga College of Education and Tamale College of Education - to observe the conduct of the exams and interact with candidates and supervisors.
Today's paper, General Professional Knowledge, was written from 9:00 am to 11:00 am by aspiring professional teachers.

The Regional Director commended the candidates for their punctuality and calmness, and encouraged them to remain focused and confident as they go through the examination process. He also lauded the NTC and examination officials for their professionalism in ensuring a smooth and credible exercise.

Education in Ghana continues to rise on the wings of qualified, competent, and committed teachers. We remain proud of our future educators!

REGIONAL DIRECTOR'S TOUR REACHES KARAGA AND GUSHEGU MUNICIPALITIES
As part of his ongoing familiarisation tour across the Northern Region, the Regional Director of Education, Mr. Alhassan Alidu Jnr, on Wednesday, 16th July 2025, paid working visits to the following areas:

• Karaga Municipality – Education Directorate, Chief's Palace, Karaga SHS, and Pishegu SHS
• Gushegu Municipality – Education Directorate, Chief's Palace, and Gushegu SHS

These visits aligned with the Director’s vision to engage with staff, traditional leaders, and students, thereby gaining a better understanding of local needs and strengthening collaboration for improved educational outcomes.

At Pishegu SHS, the student leadership warmly welcomed the delegation. The Student Leader, speaking on behalf of the student body, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Regional Director for his fatherly advice, adding that this was the first time the school had hosted such a high-level delegation from the Regional Directorate - a moment they described as historic and encouraging.
Key Challenges Raised Included:

• Lack of Teacher Accommodation
• Lack of Boys' Dormitory
• Deficit of Teaching Staff
• Replacement of a Faulty Transformer
• Creation of Management Unit
• Assembly hall and Dining hall

The Regional Director assured staff and students that all concerns raised would be forwarded to the appropriate quarters for necessary action. He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to inclusive leadership, professional integrity, and equitable development across all educational institutions in the region.

Engagements with traditional authorities also reinforced the need for strong community-school partnerships in advancing education.
