Ghana's education system doesn't ceased to amaze me. We are doing everything possible for the secondary schools to be better. On the other hand basic schools are completely neglected. It's been four weeks since basic schools resume for first term of 2019/2020 academic year. Teachers only go to school to register their attendance and go home. The reason being that the government want every teacher to become creative and innovative overnight so that they can teach our children (the future generation) to be creative and innovative. what measures has been put in place to achieve this? One week training of all basic school teachers on empty stomachs. The curriculum to be implemented is not available, not accompanying pupils text books to give direction to teaching and learning. There are basic schools with a staff of 2,3or4 teachers managing a whole school from KG to class six. There places in Ghana where making a call is not possible because of the poor network yet teachers at such places are supposed to teach practical computing lessons. Who will provide the learning resources for learning? Teachers have been told to improvise, buy less costly learning resources while school and parents provide the rest. All along I'm trying to say that our educational priorities have been misplaced. Basic schools which are the foundation is suffering and Ghanaians have even lost confidence in the public basic schools in the country.
