A few of the children received phones as gifts, not Androids, not iPhones, no fancy or labeled phones, just a phone. The girls’ phones were bright pink, and the boys’ were bright blue. The look on their faces was pure surprise and joy.
It instantly took me back to life in the USA, remembering when parents like myself bought our children their first phone. If it wasn’t an iPhone, we didn’t even consider it. It was almost a given. Our children were always ready for the newest upgrade, the latest version, the next release. I was no different.I had iPhone after iPhone, until losing them or having them stolen abroad. Eventually, I stopped caring. I now use just a phone. Even my Android was left behind in a taxi once, and honestly, I was over it.
But this moment was different.
Watching these children receive just a phone, and be genuinely happy, was humbling. There was no comparison, no complaints, no expectations for more. Just excitement, gratitude, and wonder. It was a different kind of “first phone” energy, one that reminded me how different the world can be depending on where you come from.
It was a quiet but powerful reminder: joy doesn’t always come from having the best, sometimes it comes from simply having.

When your family visits Ghana, it hits differently.

Last month, my brother, cousin, and sister came to Ghana and visited our village school. They handed out pencils, crayons, and other school essentials, small gifts that made a big impact.

I may be a little late in this post, but the love was truly in the air. Moments like this remind me why I do what I do. And how happy it is know your family supports the journey.

This beautiful spirit child traveled all the way to Ghana with her mother from the United States, carrying a heart full of love and curiosity. During her visit, she received her official African name, a moment that connected her to the culture and legacy of the land.

She spent time at the village school, bringing joy with simple but powerful gifts: pencils, crayons, and pens for the students. Her kindness didn’t stop there. She noticed a few girls in need and insisted on giving them sneakers and shoes so they could walk to school with comfort and confidence.

Moments like these remind us how meaningful it is when children visit Ghana, step into our classrooms, and connect with our young ones. We are deeply grateful for children like her, children who travel not just to see the world, but to touch it with kindness. Bonus, she even had her hair braided for the first time.
She is indeed Crowned in Confidence.

Today was one of those truly beautiful days in our village, the kind that fills your heart with joy. The children were overjoyed as they came to pick up sacks of clean water, smiling from ear to ear. Their happiness reminded us all just how precious and powerful something as simple as water can be.

BIG shout-out to Ike for his kindness and unwavering support.
It’s heroes like Ike, humble, giving, and full of heart, who remind us that not all heroes wear capes. Some come from Philly and stand front and center when it matters most.

The water contamination from mining in the region is a long road ahead, but we’re committed to continuing these water giveaways for as long as we can.

The children in our program are truly blessed! Our sponsors never fail to amaze us with their kindness and generosity.This month, two of our older children will be receiving phones, one lost his phone, and another’s phone was stolen while at boarding school. Thanks to our amazing sponsors, these boys will stay connected with their loved ones when they’re away from the village.

Phones are a big deal here in Ghana, and while these aren’t the latest iPhones or Androids, the children will cherish them just the same! Every child deserves to feel connected, and thanks to our incredible sponors, they will.
