Earlier today, ActionAid Ghana through the Pusiga District Assembly and Pusiga GES Directorate handed over a piece of land for construction of of a Six-unit Classroom Block for the commencement of the Pusiga Girls' Model Primary School. Contained in the site plan to be constructed are, a furnished library, students and staff washroom facilities, a staff common room, and a mechanized borehole.
At a brief ceremony to handover the site to the contractor, the DCE for Pusiga, Mr. Abdulai Zubeidu, appreciated the kind gesture and appealed to the organization to continue to do more for the school and the district at large.
The DCE requested that the contractor employ more local hands as labour during the construction of the structure. This he said would serve as a source of income to the members of the community.
The director, ActionAid Ghana, Zebilla, Mr. Sumaila, in his speech underscored the importance of the Girls Model School System which he said was to serve as a prototype for government and other stakeholders to emulate. He further stated that though a request was made for the structure during the handover of the Junior high school block, his outfit had it in their plan, but needed funding to make any commitments.
Mr. Sumaila added that the project was the only in the region and two others in Northern region and Ahafo respectively. The time frame for the project he said was six months. He mentioned that baring any unforeseen circumstances, the contractor, Jonas Construction Limited will complete the project and hand over the same in May, 2022.
The district director of education, Mr. Issahaku Iddisa, in his remarks commended ActionAid Ghana for their benevolence. He stated that the construction of the JHS Block has been timely and has helped provided a conducive environment for learning. This he said is evidenced by the 100% pass of the Pusiga Girls' Model JHS in the 2020 BECE analysed results.
The district director of education appealed to ActionAid Ghana to provide the Pusiga District with a modern ICT Center to better equip learners with the right IT skills to meet the demands of the ever changing world. The absence of such a facility in the district he said was hindering the teaching and learning of ICT.
On school lands, Mr. Issahaku Iddisah further admonished the DCE to help schools in the district to protect school lands, since there has been a lot of encroachment on same across the district. He cautioned that if steps were not taken to safeguard school lands, the district may be faced with the challenge of securing land for development purposes in schools in the near future.
Concluding, the district director asked for the drawings of the site plan to be made available to the district assembly for monitoring of the contractor's work to ensure right is done in the construction.
In his response, Mr. Sumaila, reiterated the fact that his outfit was committed to honoring the request of putting up an ICT Center as and when funds were available for such purpose. He promised to make available the drawings of the site plan to the assembly as requested by DDE.
The SMC Chairman, on behalf of the community thanked ActionAid Ghana for the kind gesture and appealed to the contractor to do a better job.
The program came to an end with the team taking group photos.
