In The New Hide or Seek by Dr. James Dobson, the section on intelligence and how children view it delves into the impact of a child's perception of their own intelligence on their self-esteem. Dr. Dobson argues that children often measure their self-worth by how smart they believe they are, which can be influenced by how they perform academically and how they are perceived by their peers and adults.

He emphasizes that intelligence should not be the sole measure of a child's value. Instead, children should be taught that their worth is not dependent on their intellectual abilities alone. He advocates for a balanced approach where parents and educators encourage children to see their unique strengths and talents beyond academic achievements, helping them develop a healthy self-image.

This perspective is crucial in preventing children from feeling inadequate or inferior if they struggle in certain areas, promoting instead a more holistic view of their abilities and worth.
