WHEN EXCELLENCE SPEAKS, THE ƆDADEƐ FLAG RISES HIGH 🇬🇭🎖️💙🤍
Some achievements deserve applause. Others deserve a standing ovation. Today, the entire PRESEC and Ɔdadeɛ family has every reason to stand tall and salute one of its own.
Major Kingsley Kwame Kumi, Ɔdadeɛ 2004, has done it again.
The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College Senior Command and Staff Course 47 has produced its Honour Graduate, and at the very top of the class is a proud PRESEC alumnus.
Major Kingsley Kwame Kumi has emerged as the Honour Graduate and overall best student of Senior Command and Staff Course 47, earning the prestigious Chief of the Army Staff’s Award.
Think about that for a moment. Among a distinguished cohort of officers and professionals undertaking one of Ghana’s most demanding courses in command, leadership, strategic thinking and military education, a son of PRESEC rose to the very top.
He did not simply graduate.
He led the class.
And perhaps what makes this achievement even more remarkable is that it is not an isolated moment of brilliance. It is another chapter in a journey characterised by discipline, intellectual excellence, leadership and service.
In 2021, Major Kumi was recognised as the Overall Best Student at the Army Combat Training School. In 2023, while undertaking the Advanced Gunnery Field Artillery Course at the School of Artillery in India, he was named Best Foreign Officer and received the Commandant’s Medallion Award, recognising excellence in academics, leadership, good conduct, tactics, surveillance and target acquisition, gunnery and overall professional performance.
His pursuit of excellence has also taken him beyond the military training environment. In 2023, he was selected as a Chevening Scholar, earning the opportunity to further his education in the United Kingdom. He subsequently pursued an MSc in Global Security at the University of Glasgow, with research focusing on national strategies for preventing and countering violent extremism and terrorism.
So when Major Kingsley Kwame Kumi stood among his colleagues and received the distinction of Honour Graduate of Senior Command and Staff Course 47, he was not simply receiving another award.
He was continuing a story.
A story that began, in part, within the classrooms of Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, Legon.
A story that reminds us why the PRESEC tradition of excellence is so much bigger than academic trophies and examination results.
PRESEC has always sought to produce men equipped not only with knowledge, but with character, discipline, leadership and a sense of responsibility to society. Major Kumi’s journey is a beautiful illustration of what can happen when those values are carried beyond the school gates and applied to a life of purpose and service.
From the classrooms of PRESEC to the parade grounds of the Ghana Armed Forces; from Ghana to India; from military training to the University of Glasgow; and now to the very top of Senior Command and Staff Course 47, his journey is a powerful reminder that excellence has no boundaries when talent is matched with discipline, humility, determination and purpose.
For Ɔdadeɛ 2004, this is an especially proud moment. One of your own has once again stepped onto the national stage and represented the year group with distinction.
For PRESEC, it is another reminder of the extraordinary breadth of talent produced by the School. Across medicine, science, engineering, law, business, academia, public service, the military, the arts and countless other fields, Ɔdadeɛ continue to make their mark and contribute to the development of Ghana and the wider world.
Today, that mark has been made by Major Kingsley Kwame Kumi.
His achievement is therefore bigger than one man, one course or one award. It is a source of inspiration to the young Ɔdadeɛ currently sitting in the classrooms of PRESEC. The lessons they are learning today may appear ordinary, but within those classrooms are future leaders whose impact may one day extend far beyond the walls of the School.
Major Kumi’s story tells them something simple but powerful:
Wherever life takes you, take excellence with you.
Carry your training with you.
Carry your character with you.
Carry your discipline with you.
And never forget where the journey began.
Today, we celebrate a distinguished soldier. We celebrate a scholar. We celebrate a leader. We celebrate a public servant. But above all, we celebrate a proud PRESEC alumnus and Ɔdadeɛ who continues to demonstrate that the values of the School can produce excellence on any stage.
Major Kingsley Kwame Kumi, congratulations on being named Honour Graduate of Senior Command and Staff Course 47, on emerging Overall Best Student, and on receiving the Chief of the Army Staff’s Award.
Congratulations to Ɔdadeɛ 2004 for producing yet another distinguished son.
And congratulations to PRESEC, Legon, for another alumnus who continues to lift the Blue and White high.
You have carried the PRESEC spirit into the Ghana Armed Forces and onto an international stage. You have lifted the Ɔdadeɛ flag high once again.
Today, PRESEC stands proud.
Today, Ɔdadeɛ stands proud.
Today, Ghana celebrates one of her sons.
Major Kingsley Kwame Kumi, we salute your excellence. We salute your leadership. We salute your service.
ƆDADEƐ! FOR LIFE!!
