CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE, KNUST HOLD HISTORIC BOARD MEETING AT HUBEI UNIVERSITY OF AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY, CHINA

Following the inauguration of the Confucius Institute at KNUST on December 19, 2023 at the Great Hall, KNUST and the first ever meeting of the Board at the Council Chamber thereafter, the Institute held an historic first Board meeting with at Hubei University of Automotive Technology (HUAT), China on July 12, 2024.

As part of an invitation by the President of HUAT, Prof. Wang Xiao, to the Ghana delegation to experience Chinese history and culture and acknowledge Chinese path to modernization whilst fostering a robust friendship and to strengthen the strategic collaboration between HUAT and KNUST, the trip was an opportunity to participate in the Chinese Bridge Principals’ tour to China from July 10-14, 2024.

The delegation from Ghana which was led by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah, included Mr. Andrews Kwasi Boateng, Registrar; Prof. Charles Marfo, Provost of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; Dr. Charles Nsiah, Finance Officer; and Prof. Kwabena Britwum Nyarko, Provost of the College of Engineering.

The rest of the delegation included Prof. Daniel Y. A. Duah, Dean of the International Programmes Office and Ghanaian Director of the Institute; Prof. Su Zibo, Chinese Director of the Institute; Dr. Melvin Nartey, Ghanaian Deputy Director of the Institute; Rev. Mrs. Irene Nkansah, Head of Basic School which also hosts a Chinese Language Teaching Center; and Mrs. Vivien Akumia, Head of Human Resources at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.

There were addresses by President Xiao and Mr. Boateng on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson. Both focused on the importance of this strategic partnership and the strides made by the Confucius Institute at KNUST.

A major highlight was the presentation of Work Report since December 2023 by the Ghanaian and Chinese Directors of the Institute and the adoption of the Financial and Work Charters of the Institute.

The CI KNUST is grateful to the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) for providing this precious opportunity, and to the President and leadership of HUAT for their hospitality.

CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE KNUST PARTICIPATE IN CHINESE BRIDGE LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY COMPETITION 2024

The Confucius Institute KNUST attended the 23rd Chinese Bridge Language Proficiency Competition hosted by the Confucius Institute University of Ghana, Legon on June 7, 2024.

With a theme of 'One World, One Family,' the competition provides a platform for Chinese learners worldwide to showcase their understanding and mastery of the Chinese language and culture. Contestants were from the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana (CIUG), the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast (CI-UCC) and the Confucius Institute at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (CI-KNUST).

At the end of the contest, a final-year student of the CI-UCC, Lilian Ama Serwaa Tobias, won the overall best performance award 'Chinese Bridge' Language Proficiency Competition. Her prize was a fully sponsored trip to China to represent Ghana on the global stage of the competition later this year.
