2026 BECE Grading System

The 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination will use the Stanine system — 9 grades total.
Grade 1 is the highest and Grade 9 is the lowest.

How it works:
This is a norm-referenced system. That means your grade depends on how you performed compared to all other candidates across the country, not just your raw score.

So getting 90% does not guarantee Grade 1. If more than 4% of students nationwide scored higher than you, you’ll be placed in a lower grade.

Final grades are awarded based on fixed national percentages.
