In September 2000, the village of Agate in the Volta Region of Ghana, West Africa, established a daycare/kindergarten attached to Agate Primary School to help the young children to achieve a better education through a day care program. ild’s development, through good school programs that teach the kids valuable life lessons and academic skills at an early age, through the involvement of the family and community support. The Agate daycare/kindergarten program offers multiple programs aimed at engaging families, community members, and educators in the important work of preparing children for school. In partnership with parents and educators, the daycare/program prepares children to enter kindergarten, and attain skills to succeed when they enter elementary school. The hands on programs provide a level playing field as the children compete with other kids, especially those in urban areas who have access to better and well equipped schools. The great work the village is doing has increased family and community support for our children. The daycare/kindergarten is dedicated to improving higher standards for the children at an early age, thereby preparing them for a better education. Most of the parents are farmers and small business people with meager income who do not have the means to provide a safe place to leave their children as they go about their daily business and activities to support their families. The Agate daycare/kindergarten program does not only provide a safe environment, but also a learning center to acquire academic and social skills at a very young age. Since the inception of the school, many of its graduates have successfully gone to secondary school with hopes of a bright future. A year ago, the Agate Daycare/ Kindergarten Center started a school building and needs sponsors to augment the hard work of its citizens through financial support to furnish the class rooms, purchase furniture, school supplies, including, pens, pencils, crayons, paper and new or used computers among others.
