Elmina Research & Innovation Centre

In a significant development, Prusa Research 3D printers , a globally renowned 3D printing company based in the Czech Republic, has generously donated three state-of-the-art Prusa iK MK3s+ 3D printers to ERIC. This donation is a testament to the ongoing commitment to providing cutting-edge technological resources to the community.

The official handover of the 3D printers was conducted by David Ekow Duron, an investor in Lemon Beach Resort , on behalf of Prusa Research. The event was graced by the presence of Michael Kunke, the founder of the Michael Kunke Foundation and the Elmina Research & Innovation Centre. Their combined efforts have been instrumental in bringing advanced technological tools to the forefront of education in Elmina.

Distribution of the 3D Printers
Out of the three Prusa iK MK3s+ 3D printers donated:
One has been installed at the Elmina Methodist Primary School.
Another is actively being used at the Elmina Research & Innovation Centre.
The third printer is held in reserve as a backup to ensure continuous operation.

The Elmina Research & Innovation Centre (ERIC), established two years ago as part of the Michael Kunke Foundation‘s Digital Literacy Program, continues to make strides in enhancing STEM education within Elmina. This initiative, funded by the Czech Development Cooperation with additional support from Lemon Beach Resort, aims to create a hub for research and STEM.

Highlighting the vital need for parent-to-child conversations about s*x, recent research conducted at Elmina M.A. Basic School by the Elmina Research & Innovation Centre for the Michael Kunke Foundation underscores the risks associated with relying solely on peer discussions. The data reveals that while peer influence dominates s*x discussions among 51.61% of respondents, there is a pressing concern for potential misinformation. Parental involvement follows closely at 25.81%, indicating an opportunity for guardians to guide their children in navigating this sensitive topic. With 12.90% reporting teacher involvement and 9.68% mentioning discussions with other family members, it's evident that familial guidance plays a pivotal role. However, the presence of two blank responses highlights the challenges in accurately assessing communication patterns. In light of the risks associated with peer influence, fostering open, honest conversations within the family is imperative to ensure children receive accurate information and guidance regarding s*x.

In a gesture that underscores the commitment to nurturing young talent, Nana Ekow Ankama I, also known as David Duron, Co-owner of Lemon Beach, recently presented a 12-In-1 STEM Education DIY Solar Robot Building Science Kit to Courage Avogbedor, a remarkable JHS 1 student at Methodist JHS in Elmina.

Courage's exceptional skills came to light during the 3 Day STEM program at the Elmina Research and Innovation Centre (ERIC), where he showcased a Bluetooth music box he had built. This impressive display caught the attention of Nana Ekow Ankama I, who, on behalf of Lemon Beach Resort through the Michael Kunke Foundation and ERIC, pledged support to encourage and promote children with such promising talents.

The presentation took place in the presence of Ian and Colette Cleary, partners of the Michael Kunke Foundation, who were visiting various project sites. Courage Avogbedor, having recently participated in the National STEM TVET Exhibition 2023 at the Conference Centre in Accra, represented the Central Region admirably.

Mr. Andzie Quainoo, the Headmaster of Methodist JHS, expressed gratitude to Nana Ekow Ankama I for the generous donation and encouraged further support for the community's talented children. As Lemon Beach Resort and its partners continue their mission, the hope is to inspire and uplift more young minds, fostering a future generation of innovators.

Day one of our initiatives starts with selected schools in Elmina, Komenda and beyond in collaboration with our partners Ghana STEM Network IoT Network Hub Africa Michael Kunke Foundation Digital Foundation Lemon Beach Resort making it possible for these students in the Municipality to be introduced to Robotics and Coding.
