, there was the need to ensure the continuity of the Unit therefore upon consultation with the Department of Basic Education; students on the B.Ed. Primary Education started the practicum alongside the MPhil special education students. The Unit is now called Centre for Child Development Research and Referral, with core mandates of providing one-on-one educational intervention for children with special educational needs, based on individualised educational plan (IEP) develped for each after thorough assessment. We have expert special educationists and competent staff doing the assessment, designing the IEP, and providing the individualised educational interventions. The Centre now provides practical training to students of Basic education, and graduate students (MPhil & Ph.D) in Special Education to equip them with competencies to identify, and manage children with special educational needs in inclusive educational settings. We run workshops for teachers and administrators of Basic schools, and also engage the public through radio and tv programmes to provide education on diverse issues related children with special needs.
