A BRIEF ON UCC@50 CELEBRATIONS
University of Cape Coast is 50 years! The Golden Jubilee Celebration was launched in February this year; and the year long celebrations, under the theme: “UCC@50: Achievements and Aspirations”, have been progressing in earnest. Alumni groups, home and abroad, are encouraged to participate in the celebrations by organizing their own activities highlighting the achievement of the University and the impact their alma mater has made on their lives. Officials of the University management are ready to accept invitations to join in such activities outside campus.
On-campus activities in connection with the celebrations include Public lectures, games and other health promotion activities, inter-hall quiz competitions, radio programmes and series of activities undertaken in turns by Faculties, Students and Unions.
The Anniversary Banquet is scheduled for 27th October this year at the new Examinations Centre on campus. The ticket for the banquet is One Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢100.00). Individuals and organizations who have contributed substantially to the progress of the University over the years will be recognized with awards at the banquet.
A video documentary on the University is almost ready and will soon be serialized on the main television channels in Ghana. A homecoming activity will be held in December this year to round off the Anniversary Celebrations. A Book of Readings featuring contributions by renowned scholars associated with the University will be launched in December as part of the homecoming activities.
The University has decided to construct an ultra-modern ICT Centre at a cost of Nine Million Ghana Cedis (GH¢9,000,000.00) as a monument to commemorate the celebrations. Students and staff are contributing towards the project and we invite all alumni, friends of the University and corporate bodies to contribute generously to the project. A reward schedule associated with the donations is posted on the University of Cape Coast website. (www.ucc.edu.gh)
