On 6 June 2026, our Director-General, Prof. Michael Boakye-Yiadom (representing the Vice-Chancellor of UCC), attended the Global Future Higher Education Summit in Shenzhen, China.

Co-organised by UNESCO-ICHEI, UNESCO Beijing, UNESCO IITE, and SUSTech, the summit brought together leaders from across the globe to discuss digital transformation, AI, and how we prepare the next generation for rapid technological change.

Prof. Michael Boakye-Yiadom joined an expert panel on developing future-ready talent, where he highlighted two critical pieces of the puzzle:
👉 Foundational Values: Technology shifts, but core values keep professionals grounded and resilient.
👉 Adaptable Skills: Teaching students how to innovate and pivot, no matter what tools the future brings.

This was a fantastic opportunity to network with international peers and gather insights that will directly fuel the work we are doing through the IIOE Ghana National Centre right here at home. 🇬🇭

Great to host colleagues and students from Governors State University and East Tennessee State University last week!

Alongside the College of Education Studies at UCC, we explored exciting avenues for research and academic collaboration in educational leadership.

We have walked away with a solid roadmap and high hopes for what we can accomplish together. Watch this space!

Leadership starts in the morning! 🌅

Following our training for Housemasters and Housemistresses across 40 pilot Senior High Schools, the IEPA team has been on the road training the student leaders who will work right alongside them.

With about 80% of Ghana’s SHS students living as boarders, dorm life is the perfect place to build character, tolerance, and leadership skills.

Through this training, these student leaders are being equipped to:
🔹 Act as the first line of contact for their peers.
🚨 Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
🤝 Support their Housemasters and Housemistresses in keeping the campus safe and orderly.

We’ve spent the past few weeks interacting with incredible students across the Upper East, Upper West, Bono, and Bono East regions. Seeing their enthusiasm fully convinces us that this initiative—partnered with T-TEL and funded by the Mastercard Foundation’s Leaders in Teaching (LiT) strand—needs to go nationwide. 🇬🇭

When we empower student leaders with both leadership and safety skills, we build stronger, safer school communities.

Our Director-General, Michael Boakye-Yiadom recently joined senior leaders from Ghana’s Ministries of Education, Health, Gender, and the NDPC in Oxford, UK, for a High-Level Dialogue on Early Childhood Development (ECD), hosted by Oxford Policy Management (OPM).

The big takeaway? True national development starts when we stop treating early childhood education as a single-sector task and start treating it as a shared national priority.

At the Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA), this is exactly what we build towards every day. By focusing on policy harmonisation and global benchmarking, we work to turn high-level international insights into real, practical results on the ground.
