STRENGTHENING DISTRICT EDUCATION PLANNING: GES HEADQUARTERS ENGAGES CENTRAL REGION STAKEHOLDERS ON ADEOP

On Tuesday, 28th July, 2026, officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES) Headquarters organized the Annual District Education Operational Plan (ADEOP) Stakeholder Engagement Meeting for the Central Region at the Ghana Education Service Development Institute (GESDI) in Saltpond.

The high-level engagement was presided over by the Central Regional Director of Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Juliette Dufie Otami, PhD. Key officials from GES Headquarters leading the session included Prof. (Mrs.) Smile Gavua Dzisi, Deputy Director-General (Management Services), and Dr. Musah Imoro, Acting Director of Finance, who both addressed participants on strengthening district-level performance, resource management, and financial governance.

The meeting brought together Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Metro/Municipal/District Directors of Education, Development Partners, and key education stakeholders from across the region.

Delivering her opening address, Dr. Dufie Otami highlighted the critical role of ADEOP as a framework for addressing local priorities and driving measurable outcomes. She emphasized that aligning district operational plans with national goals under GALOP AF2 is essential for enhancing transparency, accountability, and student learning outcomes.

On behalf of the region, Dr. Dufie Otami expressed profound appreciation to the leadership of GES Headquarters, the Director-General, and the GALOP AF2 Implementation Team for organizing this vital engagement and providing continuous support.

The Central Region remains dedicated to collaborating with GES Headquarters to build a more responsive, transparent, and high-performing education system.

The Central Regional Director of Education, Dr. Juliette Dufie Otami, together with the Cape Coast Metropolitan Director of Education, Mr. Thomas Kwofie, and officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES) Central Regional Directorate, paid a courtesy visit to the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) volunteer team at Mpeasem, Cape Coast.

Led by Field Manager Miss Miyoung Kim, this first cohort of volunteers from South Korea is part of a year-long initiative dedicated to promoting cultural exchange and boosting ICT proficiency among students and teachers in selected basic schools within the Cape Coast Metropolis.

During the visit, Dr. Otami commended the team for their dedication, selflessness, and impactful support toward enhancing digital literacy in the region.

Ghana National College Celebrates 78 Years of Academic Excellence and Holistic Education

Ghana National College has marked its 78th Anniversary and Speech and Prize-Giving Day under the theme: "Building on Osagyefo's Legacy, Vision and Dream." The celebration reflected on the school's rich heritage while reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence, character development, and nation-building.

The colourful ceremony attracted a host of distinguished personalities, including Ghana's High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, who chaired the occasion; the Omanhen of the Mankessim Traditional Council, His Eminence Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI, the Special Guest of Honour; the Central Regional Director of Education, Mrs Juliette Dufie Otami; the Western Regional Director of Education, Mr Emmanuel Essuman; the Deputy Central Regional Director of Education; the Mayor of Cape Coast; the Cape Coast Metro Director of Education; members of the Board of Governors; distinguished alumni; and other invited guests.

A highlight of the celebration was the recognition of Mr Robert Koomson Barns, a former Headmaster of Ghana National College, by the 2006 Year Group. He was honoured for his exemplary leadership and for instilling discipline, integrity, and sound moral values in generations of students.

The ceremony also recognised outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the school. The Central Regional Director of Education, Dr. Mrs Juliette Dufie Otami, and the Western Regional Director of Education, Mr Emmanuel Essuman, were presented with awards in appreciation of their exceptional support and commitment to education and Ghana National College. The Chairman of the occasion, His Excellency Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, and the Special Guest of Honour, His Eminence Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI, were likewise honoured for their invaluable contributions and unwavering support to the college.

The anniversary celebration served as a fitting tribute to the enduring vision of the school's founder, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, while inspiring students and stakeholders to continue building on his legacy of excellence, leadership, and national service.

Central Regional Conference of Directors of Education Holds Second Quarterly Meeting

The Central Regional Chapter of the Conference of Directors of Education (C-CODE) held its Second Quarterly Meeting on Friday, 17th July 2026, at the Gomoa Central District Assembly. The meeting was held on the theme: "Consolidating Gains: Strategic Monitoring for Enhanced Learning Outcomes in the Central Region."

Addressing the Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education, the Central Regional Director of Education, Dr. Mrs. Juliette Dufie Otami, charged the Directors to adopt a more strategic and intentional approach to monitoring in order to improve learning outcomes across the region.

She stressed that monitoring should move beyond routine supervisory visits to become purposeful, evidence-based and impact-driven, with measurable improvements in teaching, learning and learner achievement within their respective districts.

The Regional Director highlighted leadership, accountability and community support as critical pillars for achieving enhanced educational outcomes.

On leadership, Dr. Otami reminded the Directors that they are accountable for the stewardship entrusted to them and urged them to strengthen accountability at every level of the education system. She further appealed to traditional authorities to create opportunities during community durbars and other public gatherings for Directors of Education and heads of schools to render account of their stewardship and engage communities on educational progress.

She also encouraged the Directors to uphold the highest standards of professionalism by adhering strictly to the Ghana Education Service Code of Conduct. Additionally, she advised them to carefully read and critically scrutinize every report submitted to them before appending their signatures.

Speaking on community support, Dr. Otami called on traditional authorities and community leaders to partner with schools in addressing challenges such as theft, open defecation in classrooms and on school compounds, and other negative behaviours that undermine quality education.

She further encouraged the Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education to strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders, deepen community engagement, and guard against complacency in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Present at the meeting were all 22 Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education in the Central Region, the District Chief Executive for Gomoa Central, representative of the Member of Parliament, traditional authorities, and other key stakeholders in education. Their presence underscored the shared commitment of all stakeholders to strengthening educational leadership, enhancing accountability, and improving learning outcomes across the Central Region.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the Directors to reflect on the region's progress, share experiences, and reaffirm their commitment to strategic monitoring and collaborative leadership as essential drivers for improving learning outcomes across the Central Region.
