CCTU Alumni Association President Participates in Civil Engineering Department’s Alumni Connect Programme

Last Friday, the President of the Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) Alumni Association, Dr. Richmond Yeboah joined the Department of Civil Engineering for its Alumni Connect Programme, an initiative aimed at strengthening the relationship between alumni and current students through mentorship and experience sharing.

Addressing participants, Dr. Yeboah underscored the importance of creating opportunities for alumni to return to their alma mater to share their professional experiences and insights with students. He commended the Department of Civil Engineering for the laudable initiative and revealed that plans are far advanced to introduce an Alumni Lecture Series, which will focus on equipping students with practical knowledge and skills for the world of work.

Dr. Yeboah also used the occasion to inform students about the university's mentorship programme, which seeks to identify, nurture, and retain some of the institution's brightest postgraduate students through the Demonstrator Programme. He noted that the initiative provides an opportunity for talented graduates to gain academic and professional experience while contributing to teaching, research, and community service. He commended the management of the university, led by Prof. Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye, for implementing the programme and described it as a strategic intervention to develop the next generation of academics and professionals.

The keynote speaker for the event was Ing. Samuel Osei Asare, a former SRC President of the university, a Roads Engineer with the Ghana Highways Authority, and a PhD. Candidate at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He shared valuable lessons from his academic and professional journey, inspiring students to remain focused on their studies and career aspirations.

Other distinguished alumni, including Miss Deborah Asante Aboagye, also shared their experiences and encouraged students to take advantage of opportunities available to them during their time at the university.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Yeboah reiterated that Cape Coast Technical University provides quality training and urged both students and alumni to support the University's Operation 4K Enrolment Drive, which seeks to increase student enrolment and expand access to technical and vocational education. He further encouraged them to serve as good ambassadors of the institution wherever they find themselves.

Speaking directly to the students, he advised them to seize opportunities that would help build their capacity for the future, particularly through participation in extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and skills development programmes. He emphasized the need for continuous learning, noting that knowledge remains the foundation for long-term success.
“Invest in acquiring knowledge now rather than chasing money. Once you have acquired the right knowledge and skills, opportunities for financial success will naturally follow,” he advised.

The programme was attended by the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Ing. Dr. Gabriel Jonathan Amissah, as well as Dr. Felix Menu, Rev. Micah Edubuandoh, Ing. Moses Frebody Turkson, Ing. Williams Amanor, Mr. Timothy Afful, and other faculty members, alumni, and students.
