BONGO SHS HOLDS ORIENTATION FOR STUDENT LEADERS

Today, 2nd July 2026, Bongo Senior High School organized an orientation programme for prefects and other student leaders on the theme "Leadership for Today, Global Leaders Forever." The programme brought together prefects, SRC executives, cadet leaders, the Students' Chaplain, and the Students' Imam to equip them with the values and skills needed for effective leadership.

The Headmaster challenged student leaders to grow into global leaders through humility, service, vision, hard work, and the ability to inspire others. He emphasized the importance of communication, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, and vigilance in maintaining discipline, urging leaders to report incidents promptly to promote a peaceful learning environment.

The Assistant Headmaster (Administration) reminded leaders that leadership is about service, teamwork, discipline, and leading by example. He also encouraged the SRC to effectively plan, budget, and execute meaningful projects.

The Assistant Headmaster (Academics) advised student leaders to maintain a healthy balance between academics and leadership responsibilities, stressing that "Book first, badge second." He encouraged collaborative learning, delegation of duties, adequate rest, and exemplary conduct, noting that a busy leader is not necessarily an effective leader.

The orientation concluded with a call for all student leaders to serve with integrity, responsibility, and dedication as they work towards making Bongo SHS a centre of excellence.

Bongo SHS Establishes Maize Farm Under the School Farms Initiative (SFI)

The Headmaster, management, Agriculture Department, staff, and students of Bongo Senior High School, under the School Farms Initiative (SFI), have established a maize farm at the Oncho Freed Zone in the Bongo District.

The school has received tremendous support from the District Chief Executive (DCE), Member of Parliament (MP), and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA). The DCE, Hon. Joseph Akansake, together with the Chief Internal Auditor, the MoFA Director, the District Information Service, and a section of the school management, inspected the farm, participated in activities, and addressed students during their practical session on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025.

In his remarks, the DCE emphasized the immense contribution of agriculture to national development and underscored the need for learners to receive holistic education that combines theory with practical experience.

While the Bongo SHS farms are aspiring to win the Best District Farmer Award, the school remains committed to expanding and sustaining the initiative in the coming years, with continued support from stakeholders.

The School Farms Initiative (SFI) forms part of the Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA) in Ghana. Specifically, under the “Feed Ghana” pillar of the PIAA, the SFI seeks to establish farms in senior high schools (and school-based gardens in basic schools) across the country.

The objectives of the initiative are to:

Cultivate school-based farmland for staple crops and other produce.

Provide students with experiential, practical skills in agriculture and agribusiness.

Reduce government expenditure on school feeding by using produce from school farms (or nearby) to supply schools.

On day 5, May 9, 2025 of the Essential Values for Ghanaian Youth handbook training, the relevance of essential values such as honesty, responsibility, and leadership was emphasized as crucial to shaping disciplined, morally upright Ghanaian youth, especially in light of the growing trend of indiscipline among them. The introduction of the Values Handbook is timely, serving as a vital tool to address the declining appreciation of Ghanaian values. Throughout the week, students demonstrated a strong understanding of the values, actively participated in all activities, and showed notable growth in facilitation and leadership skills. The school community is fully prepared and eager to implement the VLC programme in the coming weeks. We sincerely thank GES and T-TEL for this impactful initiative and affirm our collective commitment; management, staff, and students, to ensure its successful implementation.
