College of Education is a teacher training college established to train professional teachers for the north eastern corridor of Volta, Brong Ahafo and Northern Region by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. The Evangelical Presbyterian College of Education, Bimbilla,
was founded in October, 1962 by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, whose Headquarters is at Ho in the Volta Region. The lan
d (1 square mile) for the establishment of the College was allocated to the Church, free of charge, by Bimbilla Na Natogmah Attah, but the College was started during the reign of Bimbilla Na Abdulai Dassana. It was later moved to its present location in 1963. It remained a single s*x institution until 1975 when the first batch of female students was admitted. The pioneer students graduated in 1966 and in the same year the annual intake was raised to 70 students. Over the years the College has been known and referred to as BIMBICO for short. The Moderator of the E. Church at the time it was founded was Reverend E. The College was established to train 4 –Year Certificate ‘A’ post-middle teachers in the Presbyterian spirit for basic level schools. It also ran Modular Teacher Training programmes from 1988 to 1992. In 1990, the 3 –Year Certificate ‘A’ post-secondary programme was introduced, phasing out the 4 –Year Certificate ‘A’ post-middle programme in 1994. The College now runs the Diploma in Basic Education programme. The first batch of students was admitted in 2004. It is one of the fifteen colleges selected to train teachers in science and mathematics.
