LEADERS DEVELOP MENTAL TOUGHNESS
Leadership is about solving problems. In the absence of problems leadership is not relevant. It’s pretty simple, you either rise to meet the mental demands and physical rigor of challenges or succumb to them. And because victory begins in the mind, all challenges are initially won or lost between your ears.

The very nature of a challenge sets an appropriate stage for practicing mental toughness, which by definition means a physiological edge that enables one to remain focused and confident during high-pressure situations to perform at one’s full potential.

Leaders fix problems, they don’t run away from them!

Whiles addressing a Business Strategy Forum on Corporate Leadership sometime last year, a CEO of one of the organizations in attendance asked me a critical question: “why do we have key professionals and experts in various fields sometimes with the greatest of management qualifications fail at leadership?”

My response in summary: Technical skills is a myth in leadership and not tantamount to leadership. Technical acumen and position augment leadership but in themselves do not make leadership.

Many of our managers are trained in hard management with little or no leadership.
The resultant effect is, many organizations are over-managed and under-led.

The essence of leadership is change and growth.

Leadership that provides strategic direction whiles aligning people behind vision and strategy is what propels organizations to greater accomplishments, capture bigger market shares, and deliver on key financial goals and sustained growth.

Leadership becomes a waste of everyone’s time when nothing grows, improves or becomes better.

Managers and for that matter organizations who win in the long run are the ones who have the ability to combine the hard skill of management with the powerful art of leadership.

Every human has the propensity to reduce their vision to meet their present capacity or increase their vision beyond their present capacity.

When you increase your vision beyond your current capacity, only then will your vision EXCITE and SCARE you at the same time.

Make that conscious effort to construct a mindset and a vision which will challenge your current limits.
