COMMUNIQUÉ
Engagement Between Private Schools Associations and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

The leadership of Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS), and Conference of Heads of Private Second Cycle Schools (CHOPS) held a fruitful and constructive engagement with the Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to address the current regulatory and compliance challenges affecting the smooth operation of private education in Ghana.

The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration, improving regulatory clarity, and ensuring that compliance measures are both effective and responsive to the operational realities of private schools.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the following key decisions were reached:

1. Establishment of a Joint Committee
A six (6)-member committee has been constituted to review existing regulatory concerns and develop practical collaboration proposals between private schools and the EPA. The committee is tasked with recommending measures to enhance regulatory compliance within the private education sector in Ghana.

2. Interim Regulatory Directive
Pending the completion and submission of the committee’s report, the CEO of the EPA has directed all deployed EPA officials to suspend the enforcement of certain strict compliance measures affecting private schools.

This interim arrangement is intended to create a conducive environment for constructive engagement and to allow for the development of a more coordinated and sustainable regulatory framework.

The leadership of GNACOPS, GNAPS, and CHOPS remain committed to working collaboratively with the EPA to ensure that private schools operate in full compliance with environmental standards while sustaining quality education delivery across the country.
